1. Understand the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion.

1.1 Explain what is meant by

b) Equality
c) Inclusion
d) Discrimination

Diversity

The Oxford dictionary defines diversity as “a range of different things”. Difference is usually meant by this.
To recognise diversity is to acknowledge that even though people have things in common, one must understand they are unique and different. Many characteristics are included in this statement, these are the individuals background, the individuals personality, their culture and religion, and most of the 'isms ' being sex, gender, disability and so forth. To promote diversity by understanding and recognising difference and embracing this, by placing positive value on diversity in the work place in the community and in everyday life.

Equality

Equality as defined in the Oxford dictionary is “the state of being equal, especially in status, rights or opportunities” this is in regards to “creating fairer society”. This can be done by identifying patterns of race, disability,

This can be described as a humans basic right of belonging by removing all barriers of discrimination and intolerance, this would endeavour to make all humans feel included in everything they do.

Discrimination

Discrimination as defined in the Oxford dictionary is “the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age or sex”. This can be explained by, one person or a group of people treating someone less favourably than another due to having a difference. An example would be a group or an individual would choose to show bias and prejudice to an individual who has a different skin colour to them.
