Wanderer’s song
The poem that I picked is called Wanderer’s song. This poem is from a famous Chinese poet called Meng Jiao, and it is talking about his mom’s love. The setting takes place in ancient China, where there was no sewing machine that can make clothes before the industrial revolution. Most of the clothes that the Chinese had at that time were store bought from tailors, but the most common source of clothes that they owned were from their mom, who would sew their clothing. Jiao really emphasizes the hard work his mom does for him that we wouldn't really think about.
Before electronics were invented, the candle made a huge contribution in ancient times. As we all know, the light from a candle is small and thin. Under this condition, the mom in this poem is trying to use her needlework to make clothes for her son, who is going to leave the house in search for his life opportunities. The mom is afraid the clothes will be worn out soon, so she pays more attention wondering if she can make it better for her son to wear it longer. She wants her son to come back soon, so they can be together longer. In fact, she does not really want her son to leave her, but is so happy that her baby son will go to have his own career and be happy.
The reason I picked this poem is because of my mom. I really appreciate what she does for me. When I was at home, I thought my mom was so picky, because she always judged my behaviors. She always says, “You cannot do this. You cannot do that. This is wrong. That’s incorrect. Why did you do that? It’s so bad. Be more polite.” Statements like these causes me to really want to get my freedom. I loved her, but I thought that she was changing me too much. That’s what I was thinking at that time. After I graduated from high school in China, I came to The US. At the beginning, the feeling was totally fantastic for me. I felt like I suddenly have my freedom that I have always wondered about, but after a few days, I started to miss my mom. My mom does not
