Walk With The Wilds Rhetorical Devices
This poem reminds me of my childhood. Growing up and being a child from a family that was severely diverse and different. This poem is my mom motivational speech everyday till this day about patience, independent and growing up into me. It brings back memories of learning new thing from the world and adapting it in ways that will be beneficial in the future and teaches about self-confidence, patience, hard work and never giving up.
Reading it again after a long while filled me with aspiration and motivation that makes me think this is the best poem ever. I love how the poet compare and contrast conflict using his own experiences to tell a story to his son. This make the readers connect so much with the poem because, it illustrates the levels

For example, “truth” is compared to a metal object that can be molded to a different shape of the mind desire. “Unforgiving minutes” means that time waits for no one, and we have to keep going because every missed seconds/opportunity is important. “Walk with Kings and talk with crowds” means to socialize with important people of different adversity because it’s relevant. “Worn out tools” means the elements that can cause someone to give up from their goals. All this creative and memorable comparisons were all made without the use of “like” and “as”, therefore the reader enjoys this.

Symbolism was also used in the writing of “IF” to create an “interest in readers as they find an opportunity to get an insight of the writer’s mind on how he views the world and how he thinks of common objects and actions”. It was also used to signify ideas and qualities by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from their literal sense.
Example of these is: “Knaves” could easily be translated to liars or people of decisive manners; “Crowds” symbolize people of a large diversity; “Kings” represent people of higher status or importance in society; and “Common touch” represents

In the Ernest Hemingway short story, Hills Like White Elephants, Hemingway uses a narrative voice as an eavesdropper and uses indirect characterization like dialogue to portray a serious conversation on abortion. Instead of providing a backstory, including motives and emotion of the characters, Hemingway puts the reader in the role of eavesdropper to the couple’s conversation.…

I chose this poem because of personal experience. It brings back memories of my brother who passed away from Cancer. He was an amazing person, always full of life. His death brought back many memories of our child hood, the laughs the humor. I think back to us running around as kids, summer breaks, Christmas, and all the best times of our lives. He’s sense of humor was one of a kind, he was indeed the star on the stage and us his audience. These are moments in life that could never be replaced. Often I would lose myself in thought, and wonder who would help fill his shoes. Just as he came he was gone, as if he never existed. Everything that he worked for or lived for was gone. Over time you look for ways to bring joy back into your life, to turn the pain into happiness. I remember my sister coming home with a puppy a couple months later. The puppy helped for a while but in the end the house was the same. It didn’t change the fact that he was gone nor did the puppy replace him.…

me of my childhood and it represents what poetry should be. The imagery in this poem was great; it took me back to when I was a youngster when I and my brother would play catch for hours. We would throw the ball every way possible to make it more challenging and fun to play just like the poem described. The third line in the poem says “Teasing with attitudes, latitudes, interludes, altitudes” really grabbed me with the use of assonance’s and the hard T and L sounds gave the poem intensity. I also like how the poem represents how poetry should be. For example, line 10 says “Over his head, make him scramble to pick up the meaning.” Poetry is supposed to be challenging, surprise the reader and makes them think what the deeper meaning is; which creates interest. If poetry was simple and easy to read it would be a short narrative story and be engaging or satisfying. The poem was a great representation of what poetry should be and brought me back to my childhood which is why I chose it to be the best.…

“Today is filled with anger, filled with hidden hate, scared of being outcast, afraid of common fate. Today is built on tragedies, which no one wants to face, nightmares to humanities, and morally disgraced. Tonight is filled with rage, violence in the air, children bred with ruthlessness because no one at home cares. Tonight I lay my head down, but the pressure never stops, knowing at my sanity, content when I am dropped. Tomorrow I see change, a chance to build a new. Built on spirit intent of Heart, and ideals based on truth, tomorrow I wake with second wind, and strong because of pride…” Those are the spoken words of Tupac Shakur. This poem speaks out to me because it has a lot to with the life I had went a little now.…

The reason I picked this poem is because of my mom. I really appreciate what she does for me. When I was at home, I thought my mom was so picky, because she always judged my behaviors. She always says, “You cannot do this. You cannot do that. This is wrong. That’s incorrect. Why did you do that? It’s so bad. Be more polite.” Statements like these causes me to really want to get my freedom. I loved her, but I thought that she was changing me too much. That’s what I was thinking at that time. After I graduated from high school in China, I came to The US. At the beginning, the feeling was totally fantastic for me. I felt like I suddenly have my freedom that I have always wondered about, but after a few days, I started to miss my mom. My mom does not…

The theme of the poem is the generation gap which occurs when the communication link between two generations breaks due to a mutual lack of understanding, tolerance and acceptance. Compare and contrast this poem with the poem 'Childhood'. That poem was the child's perspective and struggle to understand himself. This poem is the father's inability to come to terms with the young adult who has replaced the father's 'little boy'.…

I will not ever forget what it was like. How I felt. How I didn't know that I was different. My everyday life was not predictable because predictable routines were unheard of in our childhoods. I was resilient to those. I was always waiting. Waiting for anything. We did have an advantage many other kids did not. We had parents with jobs and steady incomes, health care, and safe, secure living arrangements. But we were also children, and we were navigating a new and strange world every few years. Every time I see a cut flower I know how it feels. It has no roots at all, nothing to anchor it to this world; yet is still expected to share it’s beauty. It’s strange to think about it now and realize how structured everything was. When I tell people about it now, they don’t believe how different my life was. I didn’t even know it myself, then. But it wasn’t like I was living in any neighborhood. Most people didn't grow up in guarded…

This is my favourite poem as it describes hope by using a powerful array of metaphors to enhance its effect. While it is true that many people all over the world live in extremely challenging and life threatening situations, leading hard lives in appalling conditions. What keeps people going in such circumstances is the glimmer of hope that things can change. This is one thought that came to mind when first reading the poem and this is what attracted me to it and as it relates to any hopeless situations it really does apply to all aspects of life.…

Symbolism is when the author uses an object or reference to add deeper meaning to a story. Symbolism in literature can be subtle or obvious, used sparingly or heavy-handedly. An author may repeatedly use the same object to convey deeper meaning or may use variations of the same object to create an overarching mood or feeling. Symbolism is often used to support a literary theme in a subtle manner. (http://www.life123.com/parenting/education/children-reading/what-is-symbolism-in-literature.shtml) Symbolism in literature was used to clarify things or deeper storyline that can be understood by the readers. Understanding of the symbolisms is dependent on a person’s thinking as an example who had experienced failure in their life may think that black colour is associated with failure, but for those who succeed in life maybe think that black is a symbol of valor. In literature symbolisms can be defined as some elements of the story for example like a person, object, or location actually represents something else that has deeper meaning.…
