Virginia Living Museum
The museum I chose to visit for my Cultural Event Report is The Virginia Living Museum. I attended 11/8/2011 with my boyfriend and his daughter. I loved the museum; it had so many different aspects to it and exhibits to see. The two exhibits I was intrigued by were The Virginia’s World of Darkness Gallery and The Virginia’s Underground Valley. The Virginia’s World of Darkness Gallery had a lot of different animals from sharks, which scare me but intrigue me, to moon jellyfish. It intrigued me because I used to go to the beaches around Virginia and would see shark fins and dolphin fins and always wonder about the animals and would love to see them in their habitat. This way you can actually see them and learn about them at the same time. There were other animals there as well like pine voles, flying squirrels, ghost crabs, bats, tree frogs, lobsters, and sting rays. They range from amphibians, aquatic life, mammals, birds, and reptiles. You can see each set of animals in their own habitat. I would definitely suggest everyone visit this museum if they are in the area. …show more content…
This exhibit is something I truly loved because when I was a kid I used to collect rocks that were from mining and love to go this exhibit. I would go to the gift shop and get all kinds of souvenirs from my trip. This exhibit has fossil remains, the beauty of rocks and minerals, geology and critters of a limestone cave. It is so beautiful. There are also depictions and carvings of the layers along steep banks of the James River, and gems in an underground mine. If your child is a rock lover, it is definitely the place to take them

    The outside activity that I chose to do was to visit a museum. The museum in which I visited was the Brandywine River Museum. This museum is located in Chadds Ford PA, which is right outside of Philadelphia, and like the name says it sits right along the Brandywine River. I went to this fine art museum with my sister who lives in the area and we did not take a guided tour, instead we just walked around on our own time and were able to talk about the paintings with each other and express our likes and dislikes of a certain picture or sculpture. The two major collections in this museum were the Jamie Wyeth collection and the Andrew Wyeth: Lines of Thought collection. There was also a heritage collection. The museum itself was in a very beautiful building and the view of the Brandywine River made the experience at the museum much better because there were some pieces in the museum that were similar to the landscape of the outside, which is thought was nice because you could look at a painting then look outside and they almost looked alike due to the painting being done so well.…

    To start with I already mentioned the car and the ease to touch and to get in yes they probably have cameras on it but it is still possible to get in. Also the short rope guard rail can easily be reached under by little kids or even adults especially how close the artifacts are to the edge of the platform. Some of the objects easily accessible are dangerous like sharp rusted metal which is not good in a normal circumstance would be good to have near children but right in arm’s length right under the rope is a bad idea. I would say they don’t have the budget to put in a case because some objects are in glass cases but it easily can be hung on the wall more out of the way. They have clothing that I saw little kids playing with one of the coats which looked to be a 1920’s mink coat. That should be more protected than just sitting in the museum where anyone could touch it. My next problem there is one problem all the display cases are full except one on the physically challenged women the case is bare and looks almost thrown together last minute but my other problem with the display they have a Michigan flag in it but it was just shoved in the display like it was balled up and thrown in and left where and how it landed. The other side of this display also had a problem yes it is still a simple fix but it is still a proble for a display in a dim room that the light bulbs had burned out…
