When I went home last weekend I attempted to go to the Arlington Museum of Art. Unfortunately the museum was closed due to the fact that they where changing exhibits and would not reopen until the following week. I returned back to San Marcos and decided I would go to The Wittliff Collections here on campus.
To my surprise it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Being on just one floor of a building I thought it would be a pretty limited museum but it is way bigger than expected. There are four exhibits on display in the museum. One is a permanent display in the museum. There are also a couple of smaller displays in an area in the museum. I couldn’t take any pictures in the museum due to the many signs up saying not to.
The exhibit that is on permanent display is The Lonesome Dove Collection. Arguably the greatest western made is based on the Larry McMurtry’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. On display there are many things from scripts from the TV show to trail maps used to show the geography of the land on the show. The collection is pretty amazing to me and I am not really a fan of lonesome dove. There are so many small details of the show that you get to see. It really catches your attention. You get to see so many of the props from guns to the saddles they used on horses. Though this is the only permanent exhibit the other exhibits are equally as great.
Another Exhibit on display is called Face to Face Portraits. This exhibit shows the work of over 30 photographers. From photos that included Willie Nelson and Texas State alumni George Strait to homeless men, women, and children from across the world. Two pieces from this exhibit really caught my attention.
One of the pictures I found very interesting being that of an older gentlemen sitting in a chair that I thought to be pretty unique. The chair he is sitting in caught my eye as soon as I looked at the photo. The arms of the chair

At the San Jose Museum of Art in northern California people from all over the Bay area can come and view hundred of beautiful artwork. The San Jose museum of Art is made up of seven galleries. At the entrance of the museum there is an arcade and the admissions booth. The first floor has one very large gallery, which is called the North gallery. On the first floor you will find the Education center, restrooms, the museums store and the museum café. Also you will find a smaller room that consists of a variety of sculptures. Visitors have the option of taking the stairs or the elevator to the second floor, where you will find five smaller galleries. Outside of the museum is a very large courtyard with palm trees. After talking to one of the representative I found out you can rent the museum and the courtyard for events such as weddings, business parties or any sort of special event.…

I did feel that the artifacts, although interesting and important, were very repetitive, not to say that they are not helpful, but I would have liked to see a wider variety of artifacts. The Strengths I noticed in the exhibit were the information included with each piece of item. I felt like this was very useful in understanding, who, what, when, where, why, and what happened to them after the fact of the war. The new piece of information that I acquired, was that at one point in the War, Germany attempted mass genocide on Turkey, I had never heard this piece of information and it makes sense to me now that they had one of the higher death tolls than the other nations involved. I agree with the way the museum is set up for this exhibit. There is plenty of primary sources and information given throughout the exhibit that anyone could learn something new walking through…

Of the many art museums in San Diego, California, I decided to visit the Timken Museum. It is located in Balboa Park. My trip to the museum was great. There were many events going on. Instead of the trip being boring and plain, it was cheerful and fun. The Timken Museum was very nice and had many great works of art. While being there, everyone got to individually look at the pieces of art. It was not a tour like how you usually see in movies. I got to look at each painting for as much time as I wanted. In my opinion, that made the experience much better. For every painting, I got to observe everything and look at every detail. There was no one telling me to move along if I was staring at a painting for too long.…

    Bodies: The Exhibition

There was a body there, that had been divided in half, which was by far, the most amazing sight ever. This body was a skeleton that was basically "sliced like cold cuts." I was able to see through every "slice" of the skeleton. The fact that almost every single body displayed at the exhibit was posing like alive and functioning people made it that much more entertaining to see. As strange as it sounds, it made me personally feel like I was able to relate to them more. These are human remains, after all. There was a skeleton holding a football in a section about "balance and muscle strength." There was also a body sitting at a table, while "turning" a page of a book. Another was laying down, "kicking" a ball as…

The exhibition is set out like a long hall, with some displays curtained off, creating sections within the space. I found I got a bit lost when looking for certain displays. This could have been avoided if they supplied a map with the pamphlet. Another problem with the layout was the sound. Each display had its own soundtrack, and these…

Upon going into the art museum I was very unsure what to expect or find. I figured if I tried to focus more on modern art I would be able to perceive a better perspective of the art work. As I walked throughout the museum there were many different amazing pieces of art but I wanted to wait until I found something that really caught my eye, grabbed my attention and drew me in for a further look and interest. After looking at many rooms, many paintings, sculptures, and other pieces of art work I finally found gallery 16. Unsure of what the actual name of the room was, it really grabbed my attention with its bright popping colors within each of its paintings. Being so drawn in I went in and took a further look and realized that paintings have a much greater way of grabbing my attention over sculptures and other exhibits in the museum. Out of the four paintings in the room the artists included Tomma Abts, Mark Grotjahn, Mel Bochner, and Hirsushi Sugito. The way they applied their skills to these paintings really drew me in to sit down and take a better look at their paintings.…

The first exhibit that I came upon was “On our Solar System” it had the clone model of the rover that is currently taking pictures and samples of the planet Mars which is also known as “The Red Planet”. There were pictures of all the moons and planets discovered in our solar system which was way more than I knew about. I saw a couple models of old telescopes that were used by our famous astronomers back in the day. I believe they had one that Galileo used. They also had an exhibit filled with books and notes that belonged to the great astronomers, some of them were duplicates of the originals though.…

Flash forward almost a half century later, the little boy is now in his fifties, and has never been back to the museum. Unfortunately, the BIG earthquake we had in the '90s condemned the museum I had walked through when I was a child. The new museum, (being built in the same location), was getting a lot of "hype". It's "Living Roof" and break through, hi-tech, architecture was so advanced that Discovery Channel did a story on it's construction about half way through it's completion. I was a little up-set that I didn't get to see the completed building in the TV show. But it was enough to get my curiosity up. I was hooked. As opening day came closer and closer there were more and more special programs on TV, the local news did live reports from there, I scanned the website,(http://www.calacademy.org/), anxious for any new photos! I figured that opening day would be way too crowded, so my wife and I waited. The stories of long lines and no parking reassured us that we did the right thing by waiting until things calmed down. One Tuesday I got up, called in sick to work, grabbed the wife and headed for Golden Gate Park! The museum parking lot was full, we had to park several blocks away, but the lines at the museum were short enough. So did it live up to all the "Hype" we had been hearing?…

    How to Improve Your Life

The exhibit I enjoyed the most was the display that shows Auschwitz- Burkenau, the largest concentration camp in Germany. This attracted me because it was sickening how many innocent lives were taken by the Nazi and how long it took to be taken down. Auschwitz had so much land and most the space was occupied by decaying bodies. Surrounding this exhibit was the clothes the prisoners would have to wear, and it brings tears to your eyes when you realized how worn out their bodies must have been that some victims could barely hold their back straight because their shirt was too heavy for them. It gave me an all new respect for these victims.…

I haven’t been in a museum since grade-school, so I got very excited when I arrived there. Before we went upstairs, where the main exhibits are, we walked around the lobby area where there are pictures from Cory Aquino’s memorial and articles of bloodstained clothing that Ninoy wore. Also in the ground floor is an exhibit of modern art, which I find very interesting.…

On September 9, 2012, me and my mom went to the Ayala Museum. the guards greeted us with a smile and the lady at the front desk was very helpful in describing what we are to find in the four floors of the building. The building was minimal. so you can say that it was easier to appreciate the collections. since i came from an arts high school, i can say that I love going to museums. i keep on having “eye-gasms” on all the “eye candies” on display! may it be pots/ gold/ paintings/ dioramas. Truth be told, I have been to The Ayala Museum before. But it always feels like the first time.…
