VARK Analysis Paper There are four modalities that appear to replicate the experiences of teachers and students. These modalities are learning styles called VARK. VARK is an acronym that stands for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinesthetic sensory modalities that are used for learning information (Fleming, 1992). Some people have learning styles that entails visual, auditory, reading/writing and/or possibly kinesthetic. Visual learners have a preference that includes the depiction of information in diagrams, maps, charts, flow charts, graphs and other representations that can be used in the place of words. Learners that have this preference get a better understanding of what they are studying when they are looking at things displayed graphically (Fleming, 1992). Auditory learners have a preference of obtaining information that has been heard. These types of learners can listen to a lecture and retain quite a bit of the information that is needed to gain understanding of the lesson being taught. Learners that utilize this as their primary preference say that they retain information best from things like, group discussions, lectures and other resources that consist of them hearing the facts (Fleming, N.D. & Mills, C. 1992).
My learning style strongly suggests the Read/write preference. With this preference of learning style, information would be displayed in a format of words. Many teachers and students are known for having a strong partiality for this mode of learning. This preference accentuates the need to read and write when obtaining information, as well as when the person at hand is relaying the information for others. Manuals, reports, essays and assignments that require reading a text are strategic methods for

    Preferred learning style is a multimodal learning style which includes all of the above mentioned four learning modes. First of all, visual learning strategies include looking at pictures, postures, slides, diagrams, graphs, flow charts, and underlining and highlighting the key words during learning. After the teaching session is over, a visual learner should recall visual images used during learning and should practice turning visual images into words again to be able to write if needed for examination.     Fleming developed an inventory designed to help students learn more about their individual learning preferences. Fleming’s VAK model identified three learning styles; Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic. According to this theory most people have a preferred learning style however some people may prefer to learn using a mixture of all three styles. As with the previous theories each style within the VAK model has individual characteristics based on their learning preferences. Visual learners learn best through seeing. They think in pictures and have intense mental images. They like to learn using maps, charts, pictures or videos.     How an individual understand information and use them to solve complex problems are mainly influenced by his or her learning style. Basically, when you can learn about how you learn, you can study and absorb information much more effectively. In 1987, Neil Fleming who has dedicated his life to explore teaching and learning, developed a popular model called VARK (Visual, Aural, Read/write and Kinesthetic) to show that there are many ways an individual can learn effectively. “VARK is a questionnaire that provides users with a profile of their learning preferences.
