Select one approach to governance and highlight its relationship to deontology. Cite three examples to demonstrate how deontological principles relating to this approach have been breached in the Pacific region
Deontology deals with duties, moral rules or values, in order to make choices we have to know our moral duties are then decision making will be easy to do. (Anon., 2014) Principles of Deontology states that consequences do not matter meaning ends don’t justify the means but it based on absolute/fixed rules, and laws and regulations. Governance was originated from the Greek word kubernao which means to steer and it was used by Plato for the first time in a metaphorical sense with regard to ‘how to design a system of rule’ - Kjaer, 2004: 3. There were 8 approaches to governance that were taught in the UU200 course; Self-governance, Family Governance, Community Governance, Corporate Governance, Democratic Governance, Political or National Governance, Regional Governance and Global or World Governance. (Anon., 2013) This essay will discuss about family governance and it will highlight its relationship with deontology. There will be three examples demonstrating how deontological principles relate with family governance, and also how this approach is breached in the Pacific region.
To begin with, family governance is determined through the distributions of family duties amongst the family members, men or women. (Anon., 2013) Teamwork within the family is very important because this acts as a basic foundation of leading a nation. A leader starts from a small section then into a bigger duty/role to lead the people. Family governance is important as it governs/lead an individual to become an independent person amongst his/her peers. However everyone comes from a family where they share their duties and responsibilities.
