Introduction

When Mr. Caleb Tan, the Director of Training & development of newly opened 3rd Changi Airport Casino, decided to send out 100 croupiers for a customer service, leadership and team building, this has angered Margaret Chan, the director of gaming operations.

Last month, Caleb did send out 100 croupiers to the same course. The result was outrages as the course that he sent was totally irrelevant to their job scope. They can’t make use of the knowledge and skills that they have gained from the course they attended to their workplace. Apart from that, during their five-day course, other croupiers were forced to cover their shift, resulting unhappiness and few resignations. As such, the customers’ complaint increased.

Caleb plan to arrange training for the croupiers, it is important for him to measure its effectiveness. Otherwise, he will end up spending money or time on something that don’t provide a good return.

In 1950s, The Kirkpatrick Evaluation Model for evaluating training was established by Donald Kirkpatrick. By practicing the Kirkpatrick's Four-Level Training Evaluation, it will help him to analyze the effectiveness of the training, which will then benefit him to improve in the future.

Reaction.

This level measures how croupiers reacted to the training. As the director of training & development, Mr. Caleb must ensure that the croupiers feel that the training was a valuable experience, as well as feel great about the instructor, the topic, its presentation, not to mention the convenience of the location.

By measuring reaction, Mr. Caleb will understand how efficient the training that were provided to the croupiers. It will also help to identify important areas that are missing from the training so that in future, improvement can be done to the training program.
