As the muscles in my arms began to tighten and my nose involuntarily began to twitch I stared at the teacher with irritation. The more I stared the slower the clock ticked. Looking up every thirty seconds would not allow time to pass quicker, this I knew however the inevitable cannot be stopped. Silent murmurs of constant reassurance kept me still but not for long. With the urge to stand up and scream out loud I clenched my fists with anger. It was coming, he was coming, oh god help me. Jumping out of the small uniform chair my tongue collected the saliva in my mouth to begin the daily ritual as I begged it to differ. “Miss Kenny! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!” the continuous repetition of the same words flowed out of my lips as my cheeks began to swell with embarrassment. Stop Jacob, now’s the time to stop, take control of what’s yours. The constant pounding in my chest began to lesson as I slowly lowered my body back into the chair. Squeezing my eyes shut to subside the embarrassment, the possible thoughts of all my friends ran through my head. As I placed my head down onto the table hoping this would all be over soon, she slowly walked towards me touching my arm with great sympathy, her calming and friendly eyes brought warmth to my heart as the feeling of humiliation came to a holt. “Are you alright dear, would you like to go outside and take a drink of water “? With my sweaty legs holding my body up right I steadily walked towards the long sound proof door. Whilst scanning through the expressions on the other student’s faces, the strange noises were enough to convince me no one had noticed.
The best part of the day was approaching and my insides ached with joy. Not only would this time allow us to quench our thirst and fill our stomachs, more importantly it allowed us to have the freedom of doing the unavoidable. I waited patiently for the loud sound of three consecutive chimes to indicate the time of the day. Finally they arrived,

Charlotte Johnston been sitting at a black top table surrounded by a group of chatty students her own age. And hadn't been paying much attention to what the teacher was saying, because everything zoned out, besides appearances and movements. Mr. Hube was wearing a bright purple sweater with tan khakis, and was extra fidgety. Something got him all hot and bothered, and it was obvious. His pale blue eyes glanced the room, and the pauses, he worried his lower lip, driving Charlotte crazy, that his outfit choice was bold for a teacher and that he appeared nervous to speak in front of his own class.…

32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. I'm six years old, and I'm secretly watching the girls in my class loudly chatting in the corner of the classroom. It's 2008, and I'm quietly sitting on my desk, wondering to myself: "Am I not important enough for a simple goodbye?". I nervously shift on the chair, impatiently waiting for the minutes to tick by. My red sweater is itching against my throat. The teacher came in and we begin class as usual. Ms. Claudia is talking about our final reflections…

Once again, I was placed in Mrs.Metcalfe who teaches second grade at Bens Branch Elementary. Mrs.Metcalfe took attendance while the students waited patiently on the carpet. After she took attendance, she addressed that she had taken some privileges away from the students because the students did not picked up their mess after having centers and would not follow instructions that the teacher gave. She explained that centers might return for the upcoming school year if they behaved properly. After she addressed the issues of the students, she instructed everyone to go back to their desks and waited till they put their thumbs which meant that they were ready for the lesson of the day. Mrs.Metcalfe went up to the front of the class to use the projector and expected her students to follow what she was doing on their worksheets.…

The room was silent, nothing was said from the eager students since one of their classmate was given the floor to talk. But, not even the poor eight year old girl had enough courage to open her mouth. She remained her focus on her blue navy skirt but periodically glanced at the impatient teacher, who held her unoccupied journal. The journal that she was expected to write the daily notes of the day. The young child that stood prominently in the front of the room knew what she did wrong but was to embarrassed to announce how disrespectful she was for sleeping during an important lesson.…

The morning my alarm went off for my EDHE class my mind instantly went to skipping. Even though my dorm is not even a minute away from the Kinard building, where class was being held this particular morning, the monstrous hill that I had to climb to get there made it a breathtaking five minute walk. I finally found the courage to roll out of bed and began my journey to class to hear about that day's lesson, which is a lesson that will stick with me for the rest of my life.…

There’s a pause and every eye, that holds what feels like a laser beam, penetrates my entire being. Imagining throwing my freshly bought food into this rank garbage can, makes every part of me twist; I’d rather throw my coffee into this teacher’s face, but holding myself back from what is so tempting, I bite my lip, shed a tear and unwilling force myself to submit to this irritating and unnecessary suggestion. Waste of money, waste of time. Teacher’s like this have a cold-stone heart, if any heart at all and need to find a new time and place to take out their personal life on something else.…

It was a simple beginning to a beautiful day in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The dry morning air brought a wealth of warmth to my tired skin. "Today is a day of opportunity," I thought. I would hopefully be entering the work force after a long battle with unemployment. I was excited because my days were filled with nothing but boredom and my mind was occupied with nothing but despair. Hopefully, today would be the day that I left my past behind me.…

Any student would find that scenario a particularly bizarre and uncomfortable one, but I was well acquainted with almost everything tonight would entail (that is, excluding the vehicle). Rather than a vehicle, the location was a vacant community college classroom containing only furniture, a whiteboard, and ten adult “students” seated in the first few rows, pencils in hand and notebooks resting on the tables before them. Despite being the youngest person in the room, I was an assistant teacher at the mere age of 16, and I took my authoritative position seriously.…

It was a week into my senior year in Ganesha High School. Walking into my third period AVID class, right after our 10 minute nutrition break, everybody, rowdy and noisy, talked about what they had done that weekend or what they had seen at break. As usual I walked towards my seat and as usual it was a task. My school bag was hanging on my side and I had my breakfast box that was filled with a milk carton, an apple, and a packaged bread in my hand; I walked and tried not to trip over the carelessly left bags on the isle. People stood up even after the bell had rung and the noise level was still high. I finally got to my seat; first row, first seat, right next to the teacher’s desk in which he had his computer. I put my bag down on the floor and put my breakfast box on top of my desk. The teacher, Mr. Mariles, came in and everybody took their seat, the noise level lowered distinctively. I turned over to face my friend who was sitting behind me. I whispered to her “Do you know what we’re doing in class today?” she whispered back “I think we are working on our personal statement.” I turned to face the front of the class, with a disgusted expression on my face. The teacher then started to explain what we were going to do that day. He had a smile in his face and was making hand movements all over the…

The classroom was bright and colorful. It was like a world of wonder. We hung our backpacks up in the small cubbys and got settle in our seats. Each of the desks had our names on them. Some of the kids were accompanied by their parents on the first day. My mother didn’t come with me. She said I was a big boy and I would be fine. As Ms. Bishop was walking down our class schedule on the chalkboard, I decided to go introduce myself to my classmates. I have never been a shy person or afraid to meet people. “Good morning, everybody and welcome to your first day of kindergarten,” Ms. Bishop said.…

There I was, sitting in the middle of the class looked upon by every single student in the entire room. I had a feeling of total awkwardness and embarrassment, and my mind went totally blank. There, like a terrible dream I never thought would come to pass, as time went by like a broken hourglass. I stared, as if I had seen the future through my eyes, as the teacher stared right back at me with her look of despise. She knew deep inside that I was unaware of her dialogue, yet she simply waited in silence for my response. Words began to spiral in my head as I searched for the one phrase that would satisfy my instructor. I threw a quick glance at the other students, and watched as they snickered and babbled off to their friends in a dialect that confused me. I heard myself mutter, “I don’t understand,” each word gradually rolling off my tongue. Awkward silence.…
