The underestimated killer. It accounts for 330,000 injuries a year. In 2013 it accounted for 13% of fatalities in Colorado alone. This is the cause for every 1 and 4 crashes in America. Have any guesses yet? Well, here you go. The big bad killer itself… Texting and Driving! This is one of the biggest problems that we face today in America. It is also one of the most underestimated problems that we face at the same time. 98% of drivers who own cell phones and text regularly said they were aware of the dangers, yet we still do it almost every time we hop into our vehicles. There can be abounding solutions to this problem, but the two discussed here may be the most simplistic. Texting and Driving is a problem because it puts lives in danger at all times. It is not safe; even for one second, due to the driver’s attention taken from the road. Driving requires full attentive awareness to the road and the drivers around them. Driving and looking down at smartphones can create a genuinely terrible habit and even harder to expunge. There are solutions in place to combat this problem, including the 44 states that have passed laws to make texting and driving illegal. Research has suggested and will keep suggesting that we keep educating and bringing awareness to the problem. We must not only keep bringing awareness to this problem, we must begin changing our actions simultaneously. The biggest solution that we can begin practicing right at this moment, is to realize the consequences and weigh them out. We must take the initiative and practice self discipline while behind the wheel. The solution ultimately is left up to each and every one of us, every time we sit behind the
