The Secret Admirer
The Secret Admirer "Sorry I'm late; I missed the bus." "No excuses, you know the drill." Mrs. Funkey said with disdain, as she stared me down from her desk in the front of the room. I stood in the back of the classroom the whole period. Once the bell rang, I ran out, trying to avoid talking to Mrs. Funkey about me being late again. I walked to my locker to find a conspicuous white envelope and rose taped inside. "What do we have here, could it be a secret admirer?" My best friend Savanna had just walked up behind me. "Shut up." I opened the envelope and read the letter. By the look on my face she could tell I was puzzled. "So what does it say?" I handed her the letter "A rose as red as your lips my fair queen... signed The King." She spoke as if she were speaking Shakespeare. She gave me back the letter looking just as perplexed as me. "Are you seeing somebody I don't know about?" she conjectured. “No. If I was do you think I'd be looking like this?" I said pointing to my face. "So I was right, you do have a secret admirer." she said proudly. I balled up the letter and threw it and the rose in the trash; I could care less about some dumb letter. I went straight to class leaving Savanna behind to stare at the trashcan. I hated my next class, only because I had to sit next to one of the Wetovick brothers; they have been terrorizing me since the 6th grade. They have always disparaged me in front of everyone. I walked into the class, none the less, still thinking about the mysterious letter and rose. "Auto, what’s wrong?" said Jake with a deleterious voice. I walked past him and sat in my seat. Unfortunately it was right behind his, "Did you see your face in the mirror again... I know it gets me down everyday." “Then turn around and you won't have to see it." I said bitterly. “It’s okay Au--” “If you call me that one more time” “What are you going to do about it AUTO!” he shouted, I extended my hand back and slapped him hard across the face just as Mr. Cone was walking in. “Go to the office Ms. Morehouse, now.” I stormed out of the classroom. As I walked down to the office I smiled at what I had done. If I was in trouble, it was well worth it. "Now look what you did." Jake said running up behind me. I ignored him and kept walking. "I'm not going to the office; see you later, my queen." I stopped dead in my tracks. Did he just call me his queen? The thought sent chills down my spin and not in a good way. When I arrived I was given my same old suspension speech and my detention slip. After school I went to serve my detention. When I entered the room I found it empty except for one person. I walked in not paying attention to who the person was until they said my name. "Another detention Auto" It was Keith, Jake's identical twin brother. I was one out of three people who could tell them apart; their parents being the other two. They thought they looked the same with their dark red hair, hazel eyes, and fair skin. They were destitute in their ideas about themselves, they were two different people. Keith was more laid back, while Jake was a little hyperactive. The only time their personalities matched was when they were messing with me. I took a seat on the other side of the room to avoid any contact. I sat down and he got up and came and sat next to me. "So what did you do this time Autumn?" he asked blocking me in with his desk. "I slapped your brother for calling me Auto." I said smugly. "Now why would you do that... you know we're the only boys that'll talk to you, but I guess that's what you get. The only thing you have going for you is those piercing blue eyes and supple red lips." he said deviously as my hair fell into my face. He then pushed it back behind my ear. He sat there diligently, staring into my eyes. I wanted to turn away, but it was like he had put a spell on me. I finally looked away, but he just turned my face back to his. He was holding my chin and began leaning in like he was going to kiss me. I started to grab my pen the closer he came the higher I lifted it. When Mrs. Funkey came in, he deviated, moving back over to his desk. I proceeded to move to another seat, away from him. When detention was over Mrs. Funkey asked me to wake him and that was something I didn't want to do. She left the room and I stood there and thought about just leaving him there. But I walked over and dropped a book on the desk in front of him. This woke him up instantly. I walked back over to my seat and gathered up my things. He stood up and stretched his long legs. I stood there a moment, thinking back when I had crush on him. I liked him not for his looks, but for his personality. He could be a really cool guy when he wasn't a jerk. "Hey wait a second!" Keith yelled. I didn't slow down I just kept walking until he caught up to me."Were you really going to stab me with that pen?" I was shocked. I didn't think my actions were discernible. "It's okay... you're still my queen." he whispered in my ear and ran out the door. I walked out to find Savanna waiting for me. "Hey was that... Autumn are you okay?" But I couldn't speak, "Autumn Dawn Morehouse you're scaring me." "Something is seriously wrong." I said finally after what seem liked forever. "What happened?" "They said queen." "Who... who said queen?" "Them" "Them who, the Wetovick brothers?" she asked confused. I shook my head bleakly. She gasped. "They called you queen... when?" she asked sitting on the bench as I sat on the ground. "Jake said it in the hallway on the way to the office and Keith said it after detention." I said lying down on my back. "You don't think one of them wrote the letter, do you?" she said "Yeah... I do, but I think they only did it to mess with me." "Is there any chance this might not be a prank?" "Well… I think Keith tried to kiss me in detention." "He tried to kiss you!" she shouted. "Yeah... but Mrs. Funkey interrupted." "So what are we going to do?” she said with eagerness “You're going to do some digging and find out anything you can." "You can count on me captain... see you." she said running for her house. "Bye." I laid there in the grass and thought of what tomorrow might hold.
