Personal Narrative: My Orthodonts
As I rolled over to shut off the blaring sound that came from my IPod, I realized what day it was and fell off the bed in a moment of pure excitement. I was getting my braces on today, and I couldn’t wait until they were on. I lay on the floor, thinking about how “amazingly awesome” this would be, and I was snapped out of my thoughts as I heard my mom.
“GET OUT OF BED RIGHT NOW OR YOU WILL BE LATE AGAIN!” she yelled.
And I yelled right back “OK OK IM COMING!”
Normally I would’ve argued for a few more minutes, but I really didn’t want to be late for school because I wanted to talk to my friend Kelli about this. Kelli and I had homeroom together and she had also just gotten braces recently. To top it off, she went to the same orthodontist that

Please drive up to the next window” the woman said.
“Ok, thank you.” my mom replied, before driving up to the next window and retrieving our order.
We made our way to the orthodontist’s office and that’s when my nerves started to kick in. I suddenly got super shy and kept my sentences as short as possible. After waiting for a few minutes, I heard someone call my name and I turned around and was met with a friendly old man.

“What happened?” he asked me between fits of laughter.
“EWWW! What is that?!” I asked him, still making a face.
At this point everyone was laughing and he replied, “That’s the glue, that we use to glue down your

I had my braces on and I could not see why I was excited to have them in the first place. They hurt like hell and they made me stutter and gave me a lisp. I couldn’t eat a whole lot of things I normally would and I absolutely hated it. I dreaded going back to school because I thought I looked like a dork and sounded weird with my new stutter and lisp, but it was actually the opposite; most people said braces suited me and the stutter and lisp would go away after a little bit. I walked into class, hoping not many people would notice me but that kind of failed. Kelli and a few other friends started talking all at once, all of them wanting to see my braces.
“LET ME SEE THEM!” she squealed.
I slowly unclenched my jaw and let them see the blue braces that adorned my teeth. Feeling super awkward with all of the attention on me, I quickly closed my mouth and walked over to my teacher, giving her the note I had.
She smiled at me and whispered “They look good sweets, it suits you.”
I blushed very hard and simply nodded my head and walked away. The rest of the day was filled with comments about my braces and I still couldn’t understand why in the world I would ever be excited to get such an atrocious
