Bruno's Life During The Holocaust
Bruno died in the Nazi death camp Auschwitz, Germany in 1943. Bruno was only nine at the time and since his death, Bruno’s family fell apart. A year later, the character of the family and family members has changed drastically. Rolf’s sister and Elsa’s best friend since first grade Sophie, has trouble understanding exactly what the family has gone through.
Elsa and Gretel moved back to Berlin to live in their old house and Sophie, came to visit them as often as she could. They lived in separate places ever since Bruno died, but Elsa came to blame Rolf for Bruno’s death; they had got a divorce a month after his death. Sophie missed Elsa and Rolf together and knew what had happened to Bruno, but did not completely blame Rolf and therefore kept …show more content…
“No,” replied Elsa sternly, “and I don’t care. As you well know, he and I got a divorce, I...” she started crying at this moment and said between breaths, “I...I can’t deal with him... ever. “Well, I was just wondering what you were going to say to Rolf,”
“About what?” inquired Gretel
“Well Gretel, your father, he um… well, he asked if I would remarry him. I don’t know what to say to him,” replied Elsa with a little smirk on her face .
Gretel did not know how to feel about this she tried to say something, but yet again, the words just would not come out. Elsa saw that she was struggling with the idea and said quickly, “Just think about it sweetheart, I don’t even know what I am going to do yet.”
“I think you should talk to him for a little bit, he has something to tell you. I was going to tell you last night, but you were uninterested,” Sophie voiced her opinion without anyone asking for it, but all for the right reasons. “I’ll go with you if you would like me to,” Sophie was honestly only trying to help, but everyone was getting a bit annoyed.
“You can come Sophie, after all, you’ll hear it through the cracks of the doors if you weren’t invited,” Elsa said passive aggressively.

    Rudolf Hoess was architect and commandant of the largest killing ever created. The death camp was called Auschwitz. On May 1, 1940, Rudolf was appointed commandant of a camp in western poland. Rudolf made Auschwitz better than Treblinka by making his gas chambers bigger to kill 2,000 people rather than 200 at a time. Hoess tried a lot of different ways of gassing the Jews. In the early days he used cotton soaked with sulfuric acid then he introduced hydrogen cyanide which killed people within three to fifteen. He said “we knew they were dead because they stopped screaming.” In the last days of the war, Himmler told Hoess to disguise himself among the German Navy personnel.
