The Rosetta Stone
The greatest discover of Ancient Egypt was the Rosetta stone. Carved on March 27, 196 B.C., the stone was incorporated into a wall before a conflict in 205 B.C. On July 19, 1799, during the Napoleon Bonaparte’s Egyptian campaign, in a town called el-Rashid, a French soldier found it while rebuilding of a fort in Egypt. (History) While knocking down a wall, the soldiers noticed a block of basalt (stone) measuring 3ft 9 in height, 2ft 4½ in width and 11 inch in thickness. It had two written languages on it, Egyptian and Greek and three distinct writing scripts: hieroglyphic, demotic, and Greek. (Budge) These scripts provided inside to how Egypt’s writing documents were noted. The hieroglyphics were used to relay important or religious content.

They were able to use the hieroglyphic interpretation to read the Dead Sea Scrolls and other ancient hieroglyphic documentation. As I think of the benefits of this historical find, I’m compelled to feel that without the historical understanding of the Ancient Egypt culture our world would have been different. We would not knowledge key aspects of their burial procedures, who rule the region and when, and etc. As we continue to undercover the tombs and other site in the region, being able to identify what is written or scribe on the walls help us come closer to their factual records. The status of social classes was evidentially shown in the way they prepare the body for burial. Now days the ideal of the Rosetta Stone to teach other languages like Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Korean, etc., gives people of different countries to learn and communication within the regions of the world. For example, I have used the modern version of the Rosetta Stone to learn some Japanese and Filipino for a Western Hemisphere deployment in 1997. I was able to immerse myself in the culture by understanding the spoken language and the written text. This knowledge really made that military deployment by best out of the seven. Our country is full of different cultures, if you travel south to Miami, FL you will be in more of the Spanish and Caribbean speaking culture. While in New York you will
