ABSTRACT Many American generations of teens and children have increased the violence in our society. Daily news have revealed violent acts and crimes of children and teenagers. It has been proven that the increase of violence from these teens and children are influenced by different aspects of media; music, TV shows, video games, cartoons and movies. These different media prospective have encouraged them in violence acts of bullying, fights, shootings, and murders. By the time these teenagers are adults they have already committed crimes as if they were murders. However many American children spend more time on using entertainment media television, movies, video games, and music than homework or studying. Most video games with violence have an aggressive impact on teenagers. Other media entertainment causes teens and children to imitate their action. Evidence also suggests that long term players and watchers imitate these violent urges more often than usual. I truly urge parent to avoid buying their children and teenagers games with violence and criminal acts and watching television with shootings and crime scenes. They have become emotional detached with interacting socially as well as intellectually in the world. This has definitely corrupt their mines emotional and mentally.

    In 1972, the Surgeon General issued the following warning on violent TV programs: "It is clear to me that the causal relationship between televised violence and antisocial behavior is sufficient to warrant appropriate and immediate remedial action…there comes a time when the data are sufficient to justify action: that time has come” (Steinfeld, 1972). Since the time that video games began to dominate the market, media has been investigated as one of the major sources of malevolent behaviors in society. “In the years since this Surgeon General warning was issued, hundreds of additional studies have shown a link between violent media exposure and aggression”(Anderson& Bushman, 2002).Although this warning related to television, it is a wonder if these same negative effects could be present in the use of violent video games. With all of the violence occurring in and surrounding schools in this current day, it is possible that violent video games also have a negative effect on the behaviors and interactions of those who use them. In the following, we will discover three different reasons why violent video games have a negative effect on players. Although video games are touted as being responsible to the refinement and advancement of fine motor skills and creative thinking, there are some issues when it comes to violent video games. When compared with television, there are some overlapping concerns. There are some benefits to playing video games over television, however. While video games involve active play, television uses more passive interaction between the player and the media.     Violence in the media is repeatedly blamed for violence in children, while it needs to be realized that there are so many other factors that feed into the behavioral development of a child. “Media violence is a risk factor that, working in concert with others, can exacerbate bad behavior.” (Cutler). The effects of violent media have been seen in children; however other risk factors contribute to trigger the response. There is no way of noting that violent media alone causes bad behavior. “One of the reasons so many media violence studies have been done is that the phenomenon may be too complex to study conclusively” (Cutler).     Since the 1920’s, when the first television was invented, to the 1980’s, when the internet was created, the media has developed and became a significant component of our everyday lives. Everywhere we go we are surrounded by televisions, billboards, computer screens, magazines and newspapers. The media has a massive influence on society as a whole, but teens are impacted the most. Since human behavior is influenced by what an individual sees, the effect is greater at a younger age. Present day media has a detrimental effect on teenagers, especially pertaining to violence, sex, and the influence of alcohol and drugs. How many movies and cartoons on the television show that violence is okay, that violence resolves problems, that violence is funny? In 1952, the U.S. Senate held hearings to determine if media violence contributes to adolescent aggression. The answer now is clear: It can (Children). The average child sees 12,000 violent acts on television annually, including many depictions of murder and rape (Impacts). Studies show what exposure to watching too much television increases the risk that a child will be aggressive (James). In shows, perpetrators go unpunished 73% of the time (Media). Parents of young children need to understand that exposing their children to PG-13 and R-rated movies that contain a lot of violence can also be quite scary and produce anxiety (Children). Music is another huge problem involving the influence of sex. Lyrics in the past years have become more of a reference to sex, drugs, suicide, sexually transmitted diseases, ECT (Media). Teens struggling with any of those problems will be attracted to the music that expresses their feelings. It is not just song lyrics that can influence teens; it is also the music videos.
