The Holocaust, also known as the Shoah, was a genocide in which Adolf Hitler's Nazi army attempted to conquer Germany and its collaborators killed about six million Jews. Many Jews were captured while attempting to flee the country or during hiding. The Jews that were captured were sent to concentration camps. Later, as the Nazi regime imposed their influence over countries they occupied, they developed a range of different types of camps.
