Life is not a distinction; it is an exciting trip with many different directions and pathways. In October Sky Homer wants to build a rocket and sets out to do that. However, midway through his rocket building his father is injured in a mining accident and Homer has to work in the mine instead while his father recovers. This causes Homers direction to change from wanting to build a rocket to having to mine. Even when his father is mining again Homer continues to as well because he has given up on his dream. Soon after his life takes a different pathway once again and Homer stops mining in order to finish his rocket and enter it into the national science fair! This example and many more in October sky would fall under the Focus on the Journey…
Maggie, who is self-conscious of her appearance, and will “stand hopelessly in corners, homely and ashamed of the burn scars down her arms and legs, eying her sister with a mixture of envy and awe” (140) is conscious of the practical uses of the artifacts. From the onset of the story we are made aware of the tenderness that their mother feels towards Maggie. Even in narrating her description of Dee, her thoughts wander back to the memory of their house burning and “Maggie’s arms sticking to me, her hair smoking, and her dress falling off her in little papery flakes” (141). In addition to her physical flaws, Maggie is described as not being very intelligent. “Like good looks and money, quickness passed her by” (142). Yet despite what could be considered as unfortunate traits, Maggie is blessed with a kinder, gentler, more likeable persona.…
After that question, we attempted to lighten things up, so I asked her to describe herself to me in one word. Vicky labeled herself as a problem solver, and labels her common sense and ability to prioritize as her best traits that allow her to do her work diligently. Vicky’s prioritization is what stood out to me from the moment I began working with her, as in one morning she had to complete a presentation, reach out to three clients, meet with Carrey, the supervising attorney, and give me instructions within four hours. When I brought up this observation to Vicky, she said that she tries to “prioritize tasks and put into perspective that people’s lives are at stake. Real people”, but overall thinks she could grow in that area of her work.…
In life have you ever thought that no matter what you do all life is going to do is get worse? Have you ever had something done to you that you couldn’t or wouldn’t tell anyone because you were scared? In the book Spoon River Anthology there are many poems that show life was hard for people. Most of the people in Spoon River Anthology believe that they only had one life, believing this had many different effects on the people. Some people looked at it as a good thing and made the most of their life but, there were some people that it took negative effect on. Nancy Knapp, Nellie Clark, and Dora Williams all…
Lucinda Matlock is an optimistic person compared to her husband, Davis Matlock, who is a pessimistic person. The attitudes of the characters caused them to see different views when it came to living life. Lucinda felt she lived her life fully and happily, all because she worked, helped people, and loved her husband and kids. Davis, on the other hand, felt that he was only going through the motions of living and never truly lived. According to Lucinda, “It takes life to love Life” then by definition, one must do something for his/her life if s/he wants to fully love and enjoy it (224). Davis’ pessimistic view on life causes him to believe nobody truly enjoys life. Given Davis’ metaphor, “Suppose it is nothing but the hive: that there are drones…
I completely agree with this because life is definitely not always going to be how you want it to be. For instance, when you are going through life and it consists of turns and loops but it will always lead back into a positive point through time. When you’re on this so-called “rollercoaster” it is yourself that decides how thrilling or frightening your life is going to be. An example would be Michael Jordan in high school. During Michael Jordan’s sophomore year in high school he got kicked out the basketball team. This would unfortunately be a “down” for him on his “life rollercoaster”. But little did that coach know he became the best basketball player and athlete on the planet. So while Michael was going “up” on his rollercoaster, I know for sure that the coach definitely regretted his decision from cutting him from the team. This type of motivation should inspire the world to do great things and be the best that they can even though someone is telling you that you can’t do it. In other words never give up on what you love doing. Overall everybody has there ups and downs throughout life and when you are in the down part of life just know that there will be loop that will put you back up top of the…
The book, This Life I Live, by Rory Feek is about determination to want to become a better person. Rory talks about his childhood explaining how difficult it was for his mother to raise 5 kids on her own without their father around. Times were really difficult for his family, until one day when Rory met the love of his wife, Joey. Rory and Joey both had a strong passion for music, and became very popular within the county charts. When Joey found out she had cancer she never gave up for what she loved. This book inspired me in many ways; always believe you can do better, never give up hope, and stay strong through everything.…

“If you don’t speak up, people will take advantage of you”(Simon 43). This quote is the best definition of what life really is. In life if you do not speak for yourself, people will push you around and take advantage of you. If you want something done right in this world, you have to do it yourself. Depending on others is what others want, but that dependency will take over your life and it will become something that is not yours anymore.…
Life is different than what everybody thinks, they all think that life is beautiful and can give you a lot of good stuff, well it might but sometimes not. It’s actually so tough for some people. In the novel Tangerine by Edward Bloor, the choices that were made by the characters had major impacts on them. Paul struggled with himself that he did not believe in what he can do. His fear from Erik was the biggest impact that changed his life and the choices he might need to take. The choices that the characters made did not help others a lot. Paul’s choices made him gain friends that helped him be more confident in what he does.…

Mrs. Tillerman gives a bad impression when Dicey goes to meet her. Mrs. Tillerman did not want them interfering in her life. Before Dicey goes to see her grandmother, she stops by a gas station. Life has always been a smooth flowing brook with small dashes here and there. It has certainly reached a critical juncture when I have to desire where to turn and what to do next and my idea of life can be best quoted by this very famous quotation:…
