In the following passages goldfish, American flag, and Texas v. Johnson there are many ways the authors show their views on acceptance.
The story goldfish, yoni was very accepting of new ways of thinking, life styles, and others opinions. “Yoni knew that if the project was going to have any weight, he’d have to get to everyone, to the unemployed, to the unreligious,to the arabs and ethiopians, and the american expats.” quoted from the story lines 30 and 31. On the other hand Sergei the other character is much less accepting. He doesn’t like people coming into his life, he lives far where people tend to not go. “Sergie Goralick doesn’t much like strangers banging on his door. Espacially, when those strangers are asking him questions.” another quote from the story lines 36 and 37. I can imply that in the selection there are many different views of acceptance. Johnson the court said the flag was in no immediate danger because of Johnson’s conduct. Burning the flag was brought up as expressive conduct so they could not permit him with any punishment in the court of law. As stated above, that would be going against the first amendment. Although, many were seriously offended by his actions the court was not obligated to give him a proper punishment for his foolish actions. “ The way to preserve the flag’s special role is not to punish those who feel differently about these matter” lines 37 and 38 in the excerpt. The flag is a representation of national pride and they did not feel as if burning the flag would change views on national pride. The government was trying to inforce proper treatment of the flag but his actions were protected by the principals of the first amendment.
