The Pros And Cons Of Burning The Flag
In the discussions of if burning the flag should be illegal, one controversial issue has been that it shouldn’t be. On the one hand, many american argue that it should be illegal to burn the flag. On the other hand, some americans contend that burning the flag is a way to get there point across. My own view is that it should be illegal.
For instance, Andrew Cohen argues that there is not one “American Flag” but a bunch of individually owned flags. Since they bought them they are property and that makes them have property rights which are constitutionally protected making burning the flag legal. He thinks that burning the american flag can not be illegal. Just because it is a wide subject. People could get a flag but it have six sided stars instead of five or the fact that they could put white strips on top nt red. It is a modified flag it is not the American flag. It stands for the families who have people over seas and people who died for the freedom of our country and what we take for granted everyday. Veterans lay their lives down for the flag. Then people just turn around and do an act that hurts the soldiers. I bet if they were in the line of fire as a soldier. They would have completely different thoughts about the flag and what it stands for. All in all, Burning the flag should be illegal because the American flag stands for the great country that protects us for overseas countries. The flag stands for the loved ones overseas. While that is my opinion. Some people think that burning the flag is not a big deal. So what would you do if you saw someone burning the flag? Would you be by their side watching it?
