Ten Years from Now
10 years from now
I used to never think about my future in my past, but now I have begun to think about my future once I moved to the USA. Ten years ago, I was in middle school, and was a kid that only wanted to do homework after school, eat, watch television and play with friends. I was a kid that did not care about the future and, if you had asked me what I wanted to be, I would have simply answered that someday, I will be a racecar driver. Now, I am able to clearly imagine the position I want to be in ten years.
In ten years, I will have completed my bachelor’s degree in information technology. After my graduation at ECPI, I would have gotten a good entry-level job in the information technology industry. When I worked in the full-time job in information systems, I would have completed a master’s degree at evening college. Now, in the year 2023, I am working as a manager in the information technology field, and I hope I will get a senior managerial position in my current firm. I have changed into a different person than I was ten year ago. I have strived to accomplish both the goals that my wife has for me, and my career goals. I have worked very hard towards my studies, and have dedicated long hours at evening college researching and studying. My work ethic has definitely increased from ten years ago. For instance, I do not sit in front of the computer and browse all day long, wasting my time. Especially, through these years, I have refrained from using YouTube and Facebook. YouTube was taking out four to five hours in my day before, but now, I have that five hours to prepare for work-related activities. Most importantly, over the years, I have stopped procrastinating my school and work related activities, such as assignments, readings, and projects. Also, my laziness was my main flaw years ago. My wife really has made me change in this aspect of my personality. Since I am not lazy anymore, many arguments do not arise between my wife and I, thus, we have

Some people look to the future with despairing eyes unknowing what they may want to be, but not I. I look to the future and know who I want to be as a person. Though I am unsure what I want to be, I do know how I view myself in the future. Peering to the future, I see myself obtaining these goals, for I know they can and will be reached. As I went through High School, my views totally changed, and I finally found my calling by the middle of my High School career. It was a pretty broad vision, but it was a start. At some point and time in life, everybody has an epiphany. I like to call epiphanies “aha” moments or a moment when you figure something out and it changes your life and the way you view things. I am sure over the years, I have had plenty of epiphanies, like discovering my fingers and toes as a baby or learning how to ride a bike, but the only epiphany that sticks with me is the one that I had the summer before my senior year of high school. When I was little the future was so far away. I did not really care about what I wanted to be when I grew up.…

Pondering the future is not an unusual characteristic to have. It is natural to try to figure out what will happen to someone and why. This allows one to consider the realisticness of a dream and what will happen if it isn’t achieved. In Langston Hughes’ poem “Harlem”, the speaker wonders about his “deferred dreams”. He wants to know if not pursuing his dream will cause regret later in life, and I wonder that as well. I want to know what the consequences are for not reaching my goals in life, but at the same time, want to dream big and attain the highest success possible.…
