The Last Lecture

Whenever you hear about a tragedy that happened like a car crash, someone getting cancer, a mass shooting, someone catching a simple disease and dying. You think to yourself for a second and say, “that’s terrible, why does stuff like that happen in this world. Then you think to yourself of course that would never happen to me. Reading this book and watching the video makes you think that stuff like this happens to ordinary people just like me. Randy Pausch was a very smart man and an amazing professor. I could have never imagined being able to accomplish those things like he did. If I was told I only had six months to live I wouldn’t know how to react at first. Unlike Randy I would be in major denial. I would keeping asking the question why me? What did I do to deserve this? What could I have done to prevent this awful thing from happening to me? Just like Randy I would instantly think about my family and do whatever it takes to make sure they live a good life without me. I would try and make money somehow so that my family was well off after I pass. I’ve always been a person that thinks about other people first. I don’t know why, but that’s just the way I’ve always been. I want everyone around me to be happy, after everyone is happy then I feel happy. If you really think about, everyone lives for the future and never the now. I always have the future on my mind. What am I going to be doing this weekend, what homework do I have to do for tomorrows class, when am I going to graduate, what age is appropriate to get married, how many kids am I going to have, how big of house do I want to live in, how big of house can I afford, where am I going to be living in two years, how much money will I put away each month for retirement when I get a job, am I going to get a job right out of college, what am I going to do if I can’t get a job in my major. You get the idea. I’m always scared for what the future is going to bring me. But when you’re

I would not be able to bare the news of living for a remaining time of 365 days. First, I would announce it to my family members and loved ones. We would then plan out our days so we can spend as much time together. I would announce it only to my family so they can prepare themselves for what is coming, my death. I would leave bank accounts for both of my nephews so they could afford to attend a school of their choice. I would purchase a mansion for my mother in the Dominican Republic so she could quit her job and live happily with a monthly allowance. I would buy a flight for my father and I to Cuba so we can both travel back to his home country together. My father would then demonstrate where he used to live when he resided there. We would…

The Last Lecture was a very interesting and inspiring book to read. It focuses on living life more than death. The life that Randy Pausch lived was not only educational for his students but for himself and he hoped educational for his children. The lecture has affected me personally by letting me learn from some of Pausch’s past experiences. Pausch says, “The inspiration, and the permission to dream is huge.” This quote made me learn that people need to have the ability to think of what kind of dreams they want to inspire to achieve before anything else. This made me think really hard about what my dreams are. It’s kind of hard to think about what my biggest dreams are, but some of the dreams I have are playing professional baseball and also having a career instead of a job when I grow up. So, for myself Pausch really just made me think about what my dreams are.…

Don’t judge a book by its cover. You hear that expression all the time. However, it couldn’t be applied greater than the book titled, “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. When I first looked at the book, I expected to encounter a story filled with nothing but sadness. However, after reading this National Bestseller, I found that I had discovered a tale of life.…

The title of the book comes from the concept of a retiring professor’s last lecture, that gives insights into the professor’s life and what really matters to him. This book is based on the inspirational speech Randy Pausch gave on September 18,2007 at Carnegie Mellon University. Randy Pausch was forced to give this untimely and very literal last lecture after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. Randy was told he only had months to live at the time that the lecture was given. The purpose of the “Last Lecture” was so that Randy could summarize and pass on his wisdom of how to achieve your dreams for his students. The speech also gave him a chance to dedicate his last lecture and a sense of his life to his three children.…

One of the main things I realized from the video and class discussion was that helping better the education and accommodations for students with disabilities is a job for every educator. The video helped me relate the information to my own life by making me realize one major flaw that I failed to see in myself was thinking that because I am not a special education major it is not as important for me to help take the necessary steps to better the educational need of those with disabilities. After watching the Willowbrook video I realized that much of the problem with what happened may have begun with people who looked the other way because they thought it was of no concern of theirs. The images and video really helped me grasp the realness of what happened. It was truly something I had to see to believe. I think it related to the course information by really opening students eyes and making us want to learn more and do more to make things better for those with disabilities.…

This quote portrays that you shouldn’t worry about the future because it’s going to happen anyways, and you shouldn’t spend your whole life worried about it. My grandpa used to say to me, that “Tomorrow will never come”, or he would provoke that, “Yesterday was the past, tomorrow's a mystery, so don’t worry about it.” It’s best to keep your mind on the present instead of worrying about tomorrow. The future is going to happen either way. If you force yourself to worry about the future, you’re going to miss all the wonderful things the present has to…

Morrie aphorism “What if today were my last day on earth?” (p. 64) made me think. When Mitch said that to Morrie it made me think about it too. Since Mitch knew already that Morrie was going to die soon, it made him think about it too. I have to say that if someone ever mentioned something like this in a conversation it would make them think about it because thats life. Like Forest Gump said a movie that almost everyone uses “Life Like A Box of Chocolates” because you don't know what you’re going to get which relates to this in a way because you dont whats going to happen to tomorrow basically you don't know what the future holds for you. You might not even wake up because one cannot for tell the future. Anyways the aphorism has been true to me because no one would want to talk about their last day on earth, they just want live and enjoy life because this is one in a lifetime. I also feel like i can feel how they are feeling when Morrie and MItch are having a conversation and that comes up. Like what if today was my last day on day ,how would I act or say. I can speak for about everyone when i say everyone would be scared if they thought today was their last day on earth. Personally I will be terrified especially…
