Teenage Drivers Research Paper
Dear state legislature, The greatest risk oftraffic crashesis among teenage drivers. These days most teenagers are not capable of the driving precautions nessisary to be on the road with other drivers. The legal driving age of sixteen years old should be highered to eighteen years old.

Driving can be dangerous even for safe driver. Car accidents happen everyday. According to the DMV website, "the crash rate for 16 year-olds is 3.7 times higher then drivers of all ages". Another source on the DMV website states, "the citation rate is 1.8 times higher than drivers of all ages". My last source from the DMV website states "the intoxicated crash rate for 16 year-old drivers is 1.8 times higher than drivers of all ages". In conclusion the driving …show more content…
According to the CDC website "the percentage of teens in high school who drink and drive has decreased by more than half since 1991". Another source from the CDC website states "Young drivers (ages 16-20) are 17 times more likely to die in a crash when they have a blood alcohol concentration of .08% than when they have not been drinking." This quote shows that even eighteen year-olds are 17 times more likely to die in a crash when have consumed alcohol, not just sixteen year-olds.

My last source is from the website RMIIA, which states "A total of 2,823 teenagers ages 13-19 died in motor vehicle crashes in 2012. This is 68 percent fewer than in 1975 and 7 percent fewer than in 2011". This quote supports my claim because it shows the crash rate has gone down and also shows that these crashes included both sixteen year-olds and eighteen year-olds.

These three sources support my claim of highering the legal driving age to 18 years of age. They support my claim because they show the relationship between age and driving behavior. Another reason they support my claim is, they show that sixteen years of age is the most dangerrous on the roads than all
