Teen Driving
Teen driving is unsafe and dangerous, teen driving is the leading cause of teenage deaths in the United States with more than 5,000 teens dying a year. 17 year old Weston Griggs, killed himself and the 2 passengers he had in his car. But, this accident was no accident. Weston was going 70 mph in a 40 mph speed zone. The issue in this story is that young drivers like Weston, inexperienced and full of adrenaline are just hurting them selves and others by getting behind the wheel at such a young age. Teens between the ages 15 through 17 do not belong on the road. Outrageous amounts of teens are dying every year and these numbers are not changing, so why keep them on the road? Teen driving in the United States have three main problems that are leading to there death, number 1 is there inexperience behind the wheel. Teens are also more likely to be distracted while driving, then there’s how teens have a tendency to speed. Not good. There are many reasons why teens do not belong on the road, Ebsco’s “Helping Teens steer clear of Trouble” 10 American teens die a day in a car accident. Teenagers also have a tendency to drive above the speed limit more than half of the time. (“Teen Driving Statistics, page 1”). Teen drivers are less likely to give the car in front of them the correct amount of space required, this is reckless because if the car in front of them has to hit the brakes it’s a fatal accident waiting to happen. When it comes to distractions teenagers are more likely to text, play with their ipod, change cd, or girls may put on make up while driving. All the distractions listed can easily turn for the worst and become deadly; these are just some distractions that prove how teens shouldn’t be aloud to drive at such a young age. There are many reasons why teens shouldn’t be aloud on the road, but there are also many facts to prove why.
