Rasing the drinving age

Have you ever been in an automobile accident? Statistics say if you are a young teenage driver it was probably your fault. Statistics show that more than half of all wrecks are caused by teenage drivers. Why do you think that two thirds of all automobile accidents are caused by teens? I would say because of their inexperience and immaturity. I believe the driving age should be raised to age 18 instead of age 16. Reasons for the wrecks are young drivers are immature, and they are not experienced, lastly because most of the wrecks involve teenage drivers.

Young drivers are very immature when it comes to driving. They like to show off, and look cool in front of their friends or girlfriend. One of the main things that young drivers do to cause wrecks is text and drive. In 2009 over 5,000 people were killed on us roadways and nearly 448,000 injuries were reported due to distracted driving. Recent studies in 2011 show that 49% of 25 years and younger receive and send texts while driving. More so in the 16, 17, and 18 year old drivers. This is a sign of immaturity while driving. Also young new drivers will try and show off their cars by racing, doing burnouts, speeding, ect. Young drivers do all these things and all these things lead to accidents. According to AAA and Seventeen Magazine 34% of teens don’t think anything bad will happen while driving distracted. Now I think if young drivers are giving from 15 ½ to have their learners permit, and got there driving license at 18 years old it would give them more time to get to know how to drive, and realize how dangerous distracted driving really is. http://www.stoptextsstopwrecks.org/#facts Another major reason I think that the driving age should be raised to 18 is because young drivers are not experienced. There are many factors that young teens are not aware of while driving, and don’t pay attention to all their surroundings on the very dangerous road ways. One inexperience would be that young drivers may follow to close to the car that is in front of them. This can cause an accident if the car traveling in front of the young driver were to suddenly stop the young driver may not have enough reaction time to stop before hitting the car in front of them. Another good reason why I believe the driving age should be raised is teens don’t understand the importance of wearing a seat belt. 58% of teen drivers killed in crashes in 2011 were not wearing their seat belt. They get in there car driving without their seat belt driving reckless probably cause the wreck and lose their life in the process. Wearing a seat belt is a must when driving and statistics show that young drivers don’t wear them while driving. 51% of teens admitted in 2011 to not wearing a seatbelt. Also teens don’t know all the rules of the road. They may do something thinking is it right and it being wrong and cause a wreck. Now if given two more years to learn all the rules of the road before driving on their own they might not make the same stupid mistakes and the teen death rate may decrease significantly. http://www.teendriversource.org/ Lastly I believe that the driving age should be raised because most of the wrecks that do happen on us road ways are caused by teenagers ranging 16 to 17 years of age is the age of most car accidents. In 2011 33% of teenage death ages 14-17 had to deal with auto mobiles. 33% of all teenage death that’s a ton! Young drivers cause so many car crashes. Now I think all the crashes is because they don’t have enough time to really learn all the rules and regulations of driving alone, or driving with your friends in the car where their life is in your hands. Most teenage wrecks are caused because the teenager is not paying attention to the road. Sixteen year olds have a higher crash rate than any other age. That’s 33% of kids that lost their life too soon. If the driving age higher we could lower than death rate maybe even to a zero percent. All I know is that the age of teens dying in wrecks they caused is way to high, and we will never know what those kids would have become. So lets higher the driving age and save that 33%, because teenage drivers are way too immature, and they are inexperienced.
