Tangerine Essay

This book was not that interesting because it took too long to get the point across and then they stayed on the point too long. Some parts of the book were good so it turns out to be a so so book or an okay book to read.
Paul felt it was not fair that some players got to play and others didn’t play. I played soccer for a while and I understood why Paul felt this way because I had a couple a players on my team that didn’t get to play in a game, but they were still on the soccer team. The coach would sometimes let them play once we were winning. Paul got kicked off the team because he had an eye problem. When I first started playing soccer, I was told I had to sit out the rest of the game because I had made to made too many goals.
People didn’t really understand Paul. They thought he had real bad eye sight, because his glasses were so thick. They had someone to walk him from class to class, when he really didn’t need the help because he could see well with his glasses. In a the book “The Witch of Blackbird Pond,” the people in town thought an old lady was a witch because she lived alone and she could help you with some illnesses with herbs from her garden. She didn’t go to their church so they thought she didn’t believe in God and she had a cat.
In the book when Paul was going to middle school there was sink hole that partially destroyed the school. He was helping the other children get out of the school so they wouldn’t fall in the sink hole. When I was in elementary school there was a flood I help people get out of the flood area to a safety zone. When Paul was helping people get out of the sink hole. Some of the people had serious injuries and they got to go home. When we got out of school during the flood we were told to go directly home.

    One of Paul’s first significant frustrations is when his soccer coach, Coach Walski, kicks Paul off the team. Paul got booted off the team because he is visually impaired, which they wouldn’t have had knowledge of if his mother hadn’t submitted the form in the first place. Plus, throughout the story, Paul tells his mother and father he can in fact see perfectly fine, though they just don’t seem to listen, “‘I can see! Don’t you know that?     This book was very different than anything I have ever read. I am still deciding whether I liked it or not. It was hard for me to follow because it kept jumping back in forth in time. The first three chapters I hap kept re-reading to focus and grasp what was going on. I was extremely confused and it went from the opening scene in 1931 to Milkman being four years old in one paragraph. I do feel this is a book you need to read over and over again to fully gain an understanding of the messages and symbols the author was displaying through each character. I thought the book was interesting that although it dealt with racial issues and focused on how characters such as Guitar and Milkman had different views of status and discrimination, their was very little mention of white characters in the book. The majority if not all the characters were black decent and it was purely one sided view on how the black race dealt with racial issues in a small town at that time. I think Pilate was a crazy character and I didn't like how long it dragged out to find the true nature of why her relationship was the way it was with her brother Macon Dead Jr. I feel like the author was changing the subject and jumping around so much that you never fully get to know any one character. I didn't like how the author killed Milkman in the end, it was as if you finally made some self discovery and then he jumps to his death. The book just builds and layers and builds, and when you finally feel like you might understand where it's leading three of the main characters die within the last pages. Aside from racial views and Milkmans self discovery from his life as his fathers son, to discovering his family history and where he wants to be in the future, I didn't really connect with any other character in the book, or understand their significance in his discovering…
