Paul got booted off the team because he is visually impaired, which they wouldn’t have had knowledge of if his mother hadn’t submitted the form in the first place. Plus, throughout the story, Paul tells his mother and father he can in fact see perfectly fine, though they just don’t seem to listen, “‘I can see! Don’t you know that? Why did you have to fill out that stupid form when you know I can see?’”(Pg 64). Also, that impacted Paul pretty hard, considering that he was very much looking forward to soccer. One of the first questions that Paul asked to Mrs.Gates was, “Do you have a soccer team?”(Pg 26). Paul was deprived of the one

When I was ten years old I tried out for my local travel soccer team. I did not expect to make it, but by some stroke of luck I did. I started playing and it was not what I was expecting. In the past I averaged a hat trick every game, but travel soccer was a lot different. I started playing defense, but that might be an overstatement, because I did not get a whole lot of minutes. I knew that if I wanted to play more I was going to have to put in more work outside of practice. I started practicing everyday switching from running, to foot skills, to agility training. I probably spent more time complaining about it and there were a few time that my parents had to push me to practice, but I knew that I had to put in the work.…

It was a frigid, windy, Friday night in October. The only light was the bright and beaming illumination of the stadium lights projecting over the soccer field. The bleachers were full, it seemed as if the whole school was there, and as a freshman with anxiety, it made it hard to cope with the fact, that I was going to be a starter for the varsity soccer team.…

Soccer had always been my main passion. For eleven years it was what I loved to do and I spent all my free time doing it. There was never a time when there wasn't a ball at my feet. Although as time went on I noticed my passion slowly breaking down. Playing became less and less fun and it became something I no longer looked forward to. I tried to deny this for a while, I went to college camps and continued to try to pursue my old dream of playing college soccer and was even invited to play with the national team but despite these seemingly wonderful things it didn't feel right and I wasn't enjoying it. In my sophomore year of high school the combination of a selfish coach, unwilling teammates and failure to make the varsity level finally forced…

The cliche “practice makes perfect” is true. It applies the same in my academic life as well as in my athletic life. To be specific, the sport I play is soccer. I discovered my passion since I was six. Soccer is my escape and my motivation at the same time. It's my escape when I’m having problems at school, like being stressed out for projects, or at home, having family problems. For example i’ll be having an argument with my mom and I get frustrated so I just grab a ball and go outside to relax.…
