Susan Dellinger: Psycho-Geometrics
Susan Dellinger: Psycho-Geometrics I love great public speakers. I've seen some great ones in my life. They captivate the audience, entertain, educate, even make you laugh. The most important part is that they make it look effortless and natural. Susan Dellinger, the speaker for the video, "Psycho-Geometrics" is one of them. Her presentation was incredibly entertaining, interesting, and funny. But the focal point was definitely Ms. Dellinger herself. The level of excitement in her voice was great, her confidence and knowledge on the subject was pronounced, and she had amazing energy. The only criticism I can really come up with is that she may have been a little too animated at times. The moment she started speaking, you could tell she was really into Psycho-Geometrics. She spoke clearly and enthusiastically. I was intrigued and interested from the first few sentences myself, and I felt like it was because of her level of excitement. If she presented it in a more "educational" or "professional" manner I might not have paid much attention at first. There was not a moment where Ms. Dellinger hesitated, paused, or even contemplated on her subject matter. She knew it all of it by heart, probably even by soul. I didn't question her credibility at all, she spoke with such confidence and conviction it was incredibly impressive. You can just tell, when a speaker is talking, if they have a positive energy about them. Ms. Dellinger's energy was through the roof, she was so enthusiastic all you had to do was look at the audiences smiles to see it for yourself. The one small thing I didn't like about the presentation was that she was a little too animated sometimes. She would pronounce words like "educated" very slowly with a hard D at the end. It was a little off-putting and felt like forced humor. Although the audience seemed to be into it so it might just be

In closing. I enjoyed this panel of speakers. Each speaker was well- rounded in their field and had a lot of incredible points to make. I feel that each speaker could have incorporated more photos or videos to show the hands - on type of work they do. This event felt a little rushed, therefore, I would recommend extending the timing of this…

Gothamie Weerakoon presentation was how inspirational she was. Coming from a small country in Asia and having 2 children while being an undergrad showed how much passion she had for science. She never gave up and continued her education. She travels the world to amazing places to collect more lichen and document the various types. I also, liked how clear and funny she was in her presentation. She explained well what are lichen which I have never heard of before her presentation. Dr. Weerakoon showed us videos and great pictures of her work and experiences which I liked. I really enjoyed her presentation and found it a very educational and inspirational.…

Mrs. Martins had the skills and ability to captivate his audience attention by supporting her speech with several examples. She emphasized on the causes of ill health issues many people, especially, older people encounter as they age, as well as the difficulties their family members faces. Her story captured many of the audience, including me. Also, many the audience was in shock of a video she showed off a nurse brutally maltreating an elderly person, I must say that part got most of the audience to shared tears. This part of her speech was the best. Furthermore, Mrs. Christiana did an excellent job by keeping her address on track and I was so proud of her. She gave a great speech, there was nothing more anyone could have expected. However, Even though, Mrs. Martin’s speech was excellent, the only tricky part was that her speech lasted very long, the program was supposed to end at 5oclock, but it finally ended at 7oclock pm. From the look on people’s faces, you could see that they were feeling exhausted. However, there were plenty of food, drinks and gifts served. Therefore, people never left with an empty…

Katelyn Rabak performed, “History Lesson,” which was about a woman who was giving her last tour at Mount Rushmore, after her boyfriend had told her she was fired. Katelyn’s voice carried very nicely this time. Also, her beats were more defined, and differentiated. However, Katelyn has a tendency to fall into a certain inflection pattern from time to time. In regards to what we learned this unit, she used the 90-to-10 rule very well, and she positioned her imaginary partners downstage (and in a way that made sense). I wished she worked on her “need” more. She did very well at spewing out odd facts that would surprise people, but I didn’t feel like she was trying to get a reaction from them that would backfire on the touring company. To make the monologue more humorous, she could’ve added more physical gestures, and those would’ve helped her vary the moments. Overall, I believe that Katelyn had a solid performance, she just needs to push herself more so that she’s not just scratching the surface.…

The next presentation I watched was Joe Kowan’s “How I Beat Stage Fright”. This was a completely different experience for me that Chris Milk’s presentation and I understand why. Chris Milk’s was based on virtual reality. A cool technology, but there wasn’t much humanity in his presentation. An irony since his presentation was about bringing out humanity through technology. I related more to Joe Kowan because of the humility, honesty, and basic humanity he exhibited. He talked about using his fears and anxieties to overcome and achieve what he ultimately desired. Additionally he used humor and humility to achieve his goals.…

It was very obvious that she was experienced in the art of public speaking and seemed very confident throughout her delivery. Her posture we very professional yet, remained relaxed making it seem very natural. Ms.Lafaive did not move around the stage at all but was often gesturing toward her charts and graphs, sort of letting the audience know what was relevant to what she was currently saying. There where a few times throughout the speech that I could not hear the speaker well, but it was more due to the loudness of the audience than the loudness of the speakers voice. Overall though, her tone, pitch and voice variety was engaging. Ms. Lafaive was dressed very appropriately; wearing neutral, almost plain colors, she looked very professional. Her eye contact was slightly sporadic and she looked at her graphs…

I like when videos in the class related to topic and helps to understand it, if it has comedy in to in, even better. Renee had in class activity, video and the poem. Combination of those three made her visit even more interacting. Each of the students prefers different learning style. I think our group gained more knowlade from the speech, because Renne used different ways of learning. We had in class activity with five words, the best way to learn for kinesthetic learners. Stand up video on youtube was good for visual learners. Because she covered a few ways to put some information in our heads we were able to get it better. Life examples and motivational speaker background made her speech even more credible.…

This talk was not about how to spot a liar; it was about how to become a better liar. Since her talk was only 20 minute, she started with a misleading title, which is a lie itself. . It mostly contains information about lying more than giving steps how to spot a liar. Using a various segments on her talk rather than sticking with one segment made Meyer’s speech weak and hard to follow. To begin with, sticking with one segment and explained it very well would help her speech to be strong.…

The general purpose for the speech is to urge all countries to join the Convention on Cluster Munitions for starters. Essentially a ‘cease and desist letter’ to both producers and consumers of cluster munitions. On other hand, specific purpose of the speech is to demonstrate aside from the obvious fatalities caused by cluster bombs, there are adverse effects as well on the survivors and their communities.…

One of my favorite activities that we did in class was the orange activity. It was really interesting because everyone brings an orange and what we did was mixed it all up. Then we had to write down details of our orange and then find it. It showed that there could be hundreds of oranges, which most may have similar shape, size, and color, but somehow they are all different. This activity proved that some people may have the same features, but everyone is different. Inside and out people have their own story and life experience. Another example of what changed my attitude would be the presentation by Jesse Billauer. His story was very inspiring because although he is not able to surf on his legs he still goes into the water. That is inspiring because he did not let his accident stop him from going in the water and doing what he loves. His presentation made me appreciate life and I am thankful for everything I have. Also, I want to experience more in life and be able to look back and be able to say “ooh I did that”. Another presenter named Jeremy, who spoke in our class was a great presenter. With Jeremy he is partly blind. He cannot see the center of where ever he is looking at. There was one main thing that Jeremy said during his presentation that really caught my attention, which was when he explained that if he was offered to get his vision back he would not. He explained that he would not want to have full vision because he would not appreciate life as much as he does now. I can tell that Jeremy is a humble individual and he loves presenting. He really is making a…
