Study Abroad
The study abroad fair brought to my attention many new learning opportunities that are available to us students. The program that stood out most to me was the CLEE Chile program. In this program you travel to Santiago, Chile for either a semester or for a full year. In this specific program, it focuses on the liberal arts, with subject areas from sociology, to political science, psychology, and more. You will receive 15-18 credits a semester you are on the trip. You will be living with a host family from Chile with the homestay housing option. Several sample courses are Social History of Chile and Native Art and Culture of the Americas. During the trip you get to experience Chile and see what it offers as you see how it differs from life in the United States. In part of the trip there are two weekend study trips which bring you to one of the most visually stunning places in northern Chile and the other to historical southern Chile. Most importantly you will get to experience the culture that Chile has to offer as you travel and do various activities.
This program stood out to me more than the others because of the opportunities I could gain from the trip and because i have family that were born in Chile, so I want to learn about the culture they were brought up in. This program offers subjects areas that could directly enhance my learning and help me reach my goal of one day being in law enforcement. They offer studies that deal with Law/Legal Studies as well as Sociology studies. Both of which are major components of me one day reaching my goal. It would definitely be to my advantage to learn how different countries and cultures deal with legal matters. I would learn lessons that I could use down the road. The other reason is more personal, my mother was born in Chile and lived there until she was 13 years old. It would interesting to learn how life is like there now and be able to come back and share my experiences with my mother. I would be able to see how

In the course Study Abroad: Learning Through Engagement, I was required to write a reentry report depicting how studying abroad changed me and my perspective on the world. In my report I made the claim that, “Studying abroad is an integral part of higher education.” According to Wayne C. Booth (et al) this claim, though vague, is a practical claim because it first addresses a problem, “caused by some condition in the world,” it contains an ‘undesirable consequence’, of that condition, and to avoid this problem, a call to action for my readers (53-54).…

I would like to grow as a person and find out more about who I am. I want to be uncomfortable. I want to be put in a place I’ve never been, away from everything I’ve ever known and I want to fight through it and grow from it. This program would give me exactly that. It would force me to learn by experience. I would be on my own and I would learn about myself and grow as a person. When I pursue something I like to know every possible detail I can about it. I like to be prepared. By studying abroad, I can learn things and be that much more prepared for the real world after college. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that college is just a step on the way into the real world and I want to be as prepared as possible for the world and each thing it…

The program incorporates a rigorous, core international curriculum, while including other components including Theory of Knowledge and CAS (creativity, activity and service). To most students, the work may seem excessive for a high school education; However, the opportunity to earn 30 college credits with the program, in addition to the lessons of time management and critical thinking are worth more than the relaxation most associate with a typical high school experience. I thrive on experience, and participating in the maximum amount of classes and extracurriculars are the best way to feed my intellectual…

I would like to visit a country different from my own. Learning the cultural difference in everyday life, along with a look into another criminal justice system would be a fascinating and wonderful experience. I would likely want to travel to an English-speaking county, to try to avoid a language barrier. A specific program that I am interested in is a class called Understanding New Zealand: Culture, Society and Environment. As this in only a possibility during the May semester, it would push of my graduation date.…

The opportunity to speak Spanish everyday with native speakers, live in their homes, and learn about their culture first hand will be more beneficial for me than a traditional classroom experience. Traditional Spanish courses are often structured for students to learn and then memorize. This has never been a skill of mine, especially with a restricted time frame. The opportunity to deeply engage myself in the culture of Guatemala is a more constructive learning environment for me.…

An exceptional study abroad program is the last thing I am looking for in college. Traveling to a foreign country would give me a great understanding of different cultures, people, governments, and customs than my own. A program that goes to France would be best, giving me a taste of France firsthand through living there for a semester. This would be a great asset, because I would not only learn things, but I would also get to see things, such as the Eiffel…

Background: As part of your application for the Faculty of Arts Exchange Programme or the HKU Worldwide Exchange Programme (HKUWW) Study Abroad scholarship, you have to provide a 'Statement of Purpose' (Arts) or 'Study Plan' (HKUWW). These are short essays which, on the Hong Kong side, are drawn on as supporting material in the selection process and, on the side of your potential host university, used to assess your motivation and study objectives, but also your command of English. The 'Statement of Purpose/ Study Plan' is a specific genre and different from the academic essay you are familiar with. Hence it is important that you follow the below guidelines closely, to produce a piece of writing that will award you a study place and scholarship. 1) Faculty of Arts Statement of Purpose • 800 to 1,000 words in length: this gives you enough room to expand on individual points, but without babbling . • Needs to include the following points: a) your reasons for wanting to study at your preferred host institution; b) how this institution will help you achieve your study goals; c) how the knowledge and experience gained at your preferred host institution will impact and influence your plans for the future upon your return to HK; and d) a brief description of any extra-curricular activities of which you are/ have been in charge.…

According to Tod Caldwell a student of Florida State University College of Arts and Science has a research about the “Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Studies of Field Effects on Single Crystal Smb6 conclude that The low temperature anomaly of SmB6 appears to be an intrinsic characteristic of the system both from the NMR data and previous bulk measurements. Recent models have made use of excitonic states but have emphasized either the charge or spin characteristic of the gap. According to Kasuya the charge and spin gap are one in the same since the correlation effects are between 4f moment and the 5d hole to form a bound state. Rise borough completes the model to give quantitative relationship to these correlated systems and to show that it is a virtual exchange rather than one mediated by a charge carrier. According to the measurements conducted at the NHMFL the in-gap states are affected by an applied field. The correlation effects, or in-gap state, seem to be moving up in energy scale as the field is increased. This would be expected for…
