Stress and Time Management
Stress and Time Management

The concept of this material is to acknowledge positive traits that help improve stress management, while making good use of time. A student who can use skills to alleviate stress and manage their time will prosper in the long run. The main strategies I have focused on are; staying relaxed and maintaining a balanced diet with a good sleep routine, establishing goals, and the A.B.C. Value Rating by George Washington University (GWU). Hopefully, utilizing these strategies will result in a stress-free, healthier life. One of the most prominent ways to relieve stress is to relax and meditate. In the text of George Washington University, taking ten to fifteen minute breaks to ease your brain is a great way to recoup. While taking a breather, it is a good idea to get your blood flowing; you can do this with a light stretch. In the same document, GWU explains that good sleep along with a balanced diet will keep you mentally alert. By using the tools from the “Improving Time Management” document from George Washington University, students can reduce stressful situations.
The best way to plan for the future is simple: have a plan, prioritize, and execute. It is much easier to focus on what needs to be done when you have an idea of where you want to be. The A.B.C Value Rating by GWU is based on making goals to achieve what you want. Goals can be short term or long term and are meant to be reachable, but not “easy”. Creating challenging goals for yourself can be a way of determining your

When I was under stress, for my Relaxation Technique, I chose to do different breathing exercises. Breathing can help you maintain a good physical and mental state of mind. Recently, I was assigned about one to two projects in each of my six classes, all within one week and they were all due on the same day. I thought I would be able to do it by doing a little bit each day. It turned out that I had done too little and about two days before they were due, I was so stressed out that I cried and didn’t know how to handle this situation. I put everything that needed to be done out in front of me and just stopped. I closed my eyes and did breathing exercises. I took several deep breaths and came back to my senses. I finished about three of the projects late that night and talked to my teachers about extending the due dates for the other projects. Thanks to breathing, it brought me back into a peaceful state of mind when I was able to solve my problems with logic and reasoning.…

I’ve learned in psychology that you can meditate to refresh yourself and keep things back on track. Meditation is also a safe and simple way to balance your physical, emotional, and mental state and more and more doctors are encouraging patients to practice meditation to cure many stress related illnesses. Everyday most of us experience stress in many different ways and I believe many people are simply not aware of how much stress we actually hold on to. One of the greatest positive effects of meditation is how it allows the body to distress. Normally life threatening situations trigger off the stress response which enables us to act without contemplation and deliberation and survive intense situations using fast…

Americans today tend to believe that college is four years of partying and fun while earning a degree, and there is validity in that belief, but one must also include the four years of learning and hard work. One benefit of college is all of the fun activities that there are to take part in. These activities that college students take part in give the students two important things in life: stress management abilities and connections. Students work hard all week and then finally get the chance to relax and do something they enjoy on the weekends. That “down time” is spent relaxing, and trying to figure out a non-stressful way to complete all homework and projects and still go out for fun. The stress management relates to time management, as students want to do work in a logical time frame that keeps life easy. These two skills relate to life after college because once someone has a job they have to manage the stress of the job and complete tasks in a timely manner. On May 16, 2011, Paul Taylor and his research team from Pew Social…

A nursing student’s time is precious. The amount of time that it takes a student to secure a degree varies by college, yet the process still requires extreme dedication, diligence, mental stamina, and judicious time-management. Once a student has been accepted into a nursing program and begun their education, it soon becomes apparent the need to adapt and accustom a pattern of readjustment to the field of nursing. Overcoming what lies in the unknown, assessing one’s own stress, discovering ways to reduce stress, and creating ultimate compensation that is reflected by achieving good grades are some key qualities to procure. Nursing students, who apportion the majority of their time to academic tasks, not only overcome the stress of procrastination, but in return, achieve satisfaction. While the nursing students who allot only the bare minimum of their time, are overcome with stress to complete tasks and projects on time, and do not achieve that satisfaction; instead, these students may unknowingly put themselves behind others who managed their time wisely. This purpose of proper time management not only applies while attending nursing school, but likewise in the nursing field with patients. (Mirzaei, Oskouie, & Forough, 2012)…

There are many challenges that we face and have to handle every single day. And, as women, we frequently have to balance the demands of work, family, children, parents, finances, and health—to name just a few. These demands are frequently referred to as “stressors” and achieving a balance is “stressful.” But multiple demands on our time and energy are a part of everyone’s life. Stress is not how many demands you have in your life, but rather how you and your body respond to these demands. For some, racing to meet a tight deadline or complete a long “ToDo” list can be positive and energizing. It’s important to learn what stress is, at what point it becomes harmful, and options for how you can respond to it. Finding the right balance is essential.…

The method I chose as a relaxation/stress-relief technique is Exercising. Exercising is one the most important things to do to keep your body not only healthy physically, but mentally as well. I find myself going to the gym almost five days a week to relieve myself from the stressful environment that I endure every week. Whether it would be from work, school, or issues happening at home or around me, Exercising and going to the gym will help me clear my thoughts and keep my body physically in check. After I exercise, I find myself sleeping much easier with all the stress gone as my body becomes exhausted from the cardio workout that I have been doing. Exercising can be the cure of physical…

I tend to be stress oriented. Elements like external distractions or momentary impediments to my studies can be a big source of stress to me. I already started my stress journal, as suggested in this week's readings, and I must say that it can be helpful. But I need to write it down every single day and be dedicated on it. Another solution that works well is autogenic training. I learned it long time ago and I am still practicing it once in a while. I intend to make it become a daily…
