Standing Up
Throughout our history we’ve read about many people standing up for what they believed in and continually making a great impact upon each and every single one of us. Such as, Martin Luther King Jr., fought for equal rights or Cesar Chavez who fought for the rights of migrant farm workers. In our lives we deal with tasks that build our character whether it takes a positive or negative effect. At some point in our young lives we deal with peer pressure, bullying and whether or not to stand up for what we believe in.
Standing up not only does it help you be confident with yourself but it creates a leader within the eyes of others. At some point I too had to stand up for what I believed was the right thing to do and that point came when I saw my friend being bullied by a group of people that seemed like they were up to no good. Many thoughts ran through my head as I seen them getting closer to her. I didn’t know whether to ignore the situation or act upon it and help.
Moreover I did not want to be silenced, I wanted be that voice that helps encourage people to take action. As I walked over to her I noticed that the situation was getting noticed by the people around. At that point the bullies silenced themselves to realize that my friend wasn’t alone. Since the situation was noticed by many people the bullies didn’t have anything to say but decided to walk away. At that point I knew that standing up for what I believed in was easier than what it looked like and it made a huge change.
The people around me where glad to know that people still stood up for each-other. They stated they we’re inspired by my actions, to have a voice. I wasn’t only happy that my actions inspired other but I was happy that my friend was safe. At that moment I realized that it’s the little things that make a huge impact. I made a huge impact in my friend’s life.
Standing up is not always easy but the outcome is worth it. I didn’t impact the world like Martin Luther King Jr. or Cesar Chavez but
