Civil disobedience A woman executed for burying her brother’s body. Thousands of citizens denied the right to vote because of the complexion of their skin. Millions of men, women, and children tortured and murdered due to their beliefs. Strong and powerful governments should not tolerate this complete absence of human rights. Civilians deserve the right to oppose a prideful or biased leader’s ideas if they contradict their beliefs.
People should be able to stand up to their government officials because they are not always fair and do not want what is best for their own people. Also, individuals may have ideas that are unequal as well, like the Westboro Baptist Church. The Westboro Baptist Church is a hate group disguised as a church. They use religion as an excuse to hate Jews, Catholics, and even American soldiers. They are also extremely anti-gay and protest funerals, public events, etc. Governments should not encourage groups like these to protest because their ideas and beliefs are prejudiced. The hardest part about standing up for one’s rights is that everyone else may agree with the government’s prejudiced beliefs. Society is often guilty for persecuting entire races, sexes, and nationalities; it’s not just their leaders. Inequality is so common that it can be witnessed daily. This is because of flawed leaders and an uninformed society. One of the most notable protests in American history was the March on Washington. Thousands of Americans, both black and white, were brave enough to protest their country’s inhumane laws. These people were criticized for doing something honorable and courageous. They did not care about how the public felt about them, or if they would get arrested because they knew they were doing what’s right. Society should not only accept this behavior, but encourage it.
