Sports are Important to Society

For hundreds of years, sports have been used for entertainment and some would argue that entertainment is sports only use and that sports hold no other value. Some believe that sports are important because of the competition that many sports like football and basketball among various other sports require. However, sports can teach some of life’s most important lessons and values to the youth who participate in sports. People should not have a bad week at work because their favorite team lost. The anger and emotion people put into following sports can often shape their world. Although sports are important for kids, they should not be the center of an adult’s life.

The first reason that i think competitive sports are good for kids is that it helps build self esteem for example kids have to play the sports the right way and there teammates will say good job, nice try, and good play. So they build their self esteem by being on a sport team and by their teammates complimenting them. When you learn something you have self esteem for it so you are confident in it. “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. Experts say that your child's entire team will suffer if the parents are pressuring their kids (KCRA.com, “Do Athletes Face Unnecessary Parent Pressure?” ). This fact is important because it proves, when parents put pressure on their children it does not benefit them, in fact it is actually setting them up for life in an unhealthy way.
