Speech On Marching Band
I admire you as a student, fellow musician and as a friend. You have always accelerated in whatever you have tried. I know that you’ll have a great musical career whether it be teaching or playing (or some of both). You are so smart and funny. It is hard to believe that before Marching Band, I didn’t know you at all and know I feel like I know too much of you. You are are very, very, very talented Clarinet player and I admire you in every single way. You have changed me, you make me want to be a better clarinet player every single day. Whether it be acing warm-ups or playing the show with full dynamics. Though after next year I probably won’t use it, it still never hurts of being semi-good. :) I loved walking through the band journey with you

There may be as many as 500+ members in a marching band, each having their own part that inter-locks with the 499 others'. I believe marching band should be considered a sport. Everyone must be incredibly coordinated and precise. The band as a whole, and individually must practice. Then there's all the physical stresses that you have to overcome.…

I am writing concerning Tripp Moore, whom I have come to know throughout my years as the Flomaton High School “Hurricane” Marching Band drumline instructor. As Tripp’s instructor, it was a pleasure to get to know him. Tripp has been a great student of mine and it has been my pleasure of being able to teach him. He has some great qualities of a human being and qualities that you would love to see in a leader. Tripp’s hard work and his dedication to music helped him as he joined band and made awesome strides to be on the best percussionist. Tripp also dedicates his time to being a part of the Flomaton High School Jazz Band, and being the drummer at his church First Baptist Church of Flomaton, Alabama. Tripp will one day be a great leader in his…

I would like to express my earnest (and long overdue) appreciation to you for serving as one of our facilitators during the last All Corps Event. We needed many facilitators like you to support this very important work and we are lucky that you agreed to help us. We are highly obliged for the time and effort you have put in as a volunteer facilitator despite your busy schedule and the various responsibilities that you have as a teacher. The corps members who participated in your group shared very positive feedback in the survey and are yearning for more! As Corbin and I prepare for the Spring All Corps Event on March 19th, it is our hope that you would lead a session to build on the previous experience.…

You truly have a beautiful soul. Everything I learn from you I will keep with me wherever I go, and I want you to know that you have really changed my life. I hope that I can end up being a fraction as amazing and brilliant as you are. You are completely unselfish; everything you do benefits others. All you ever want to do is help people. I am positive that every teen you have known in PFO has been impacted by you in a huge way. You are the perfect role model and if any of you has rubbed off on me I would feel blessed. This year has been no different to any other in my life, you have always been there supporting me and guiding me but this year I have realized how much of a difference you make in my life and I thank you. Last year, our game was strong; the band obtained a rating of two at state finals in Brunswick, Ohio. It was marching season, not football season. With eight incredibly talented seniors on various instruments, our season was substantial and awe-inspiring. Those seniors took charge and impelled us to victory. Also, the music was an upper level composition wrote for experienced hands and mouths. The Shenandoah Marching Band only had four Jr. High members in its midsts: Cameron Kolbank, Lorrin Wiley, Corey Feldner, and Deanna Mick. Although, after losing so many seniors last marching season, the band has been forced to call upon eight Jr. High band members to engage at the high school level in the marching program. This year with the new additions,…

No matter how horrible our country might be at the moment, refusing to stand up for the National Anthem shows complete disrespect and dishonor to our country. Our country has been through so much in the past to fight for what we have today, people have risked their lives for you to have an even better one and for you not even acknowledge the importance of the sacrifices they made for you and everyone else, is disgraceful. New Orleans Saints quarterback, also disagreed with the fact that it’s a disrespectful to not stand up during the National Anthem, he stated, “[I]t’s an oxymoron that you’re sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out.” How could you put no honor towards the flag? The flag that represents…

When I joined the Bridgewater-Raritan program in August, I did not know what to expect. I knew that band was going to be hard work and a lot different than middle school. Personally, I think I have gotten more out of being a part of the program than I did in middle school, both with my skills and life lessons. I remember one of my first days when Mr. Markiewicz said that we would build an unbreakable relationship with our instrument. I have to admit that when he said that I giggled a little and said “yeah right” to myself. I hate to say it, but Mr. Markiewicz, you were right. I have grown to love practicing; I can feel my fingers responding faster, my air intensity increasing, and my mind becoming more alert whenever I pick up my clarinet. I can look back and see how much I have improved since the last note I played as an eighth grader, and I smile a little bit, knowing that this is only the beginning of my development in music.…

Influence, the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something. There is a good chance that most of us have been influenced by someone or something throughout our lifetime. We all offer the ability to influence, and to be influenced. In 2011 when I joined my school's marching band, I did not realize the influence it would have on my life by teaching me teamwork, self-discipline, time management, and dedication.…

The Butler County Performing and Visual Arts programs our community offers has truly changed the person I am today. Through the Butler County High School Band, I have learned how to play the flute and been doing so for eight years and been able to perform in the marching band as a color guard member for four years. It truly has been such a blessing to be in such an amazing program, and I am extremely thankful for the opportunities and friendships it has given me. I began playing the flute in 5th grade at Morgantown Elementary School. Never would I imagine the memories and friendships I have gained from picking up that flute when I was 10 years old.…

Success is not a straight line from the bottom up. It is not even close. It is a line that bends, goes straight up then straight back down, loops around, zig-zagging, U-turns. My life has been a rat’s nest of failures and successes. From game winning grand slams and complete blowouts. One of the most defining things of my life was being cut from the the MRHS baseball team.…

During my junior year I was the section leader for the Alto Saxophones, and I went on to become drum major the next year. I attended a drum major camp to learn how to correctly and efficiently lead the band. Along with the help of the section leaders and the other drum major, we lead the band to learn more sets and music than we had ever done in the past. By the end the that performance at the SVVSD Band Night we had practiced the non-stop eight minutes of music more than some would have liked to. No matter how well we performed, I was happy to have seen the band come so far since the beginning. The band has given me so much since my first day of camp freshmen year. I have come out of my shell, and found peace from everyday stress as well as a new family to rely on. When I joined the band after that last performance, I was so grateful for the opportunity to have been drum major and I knew that we were…

I remember it like it was yesterday. Standing in the middle of millions of people, jamming to great music, and freezing as the temperature got colder. When Jimi Hendrix came out to play the National Anthem; some people loved it yet, some people were not. During that song people separated by their opinions. You have the people who love rock, who loved Jimi Hendrix, and the people who admired everything he did. Then, you have the people who think distorting the National Anthem was wrong and shouldn't be aloud. That was how the first Woodstock Festival started.…

A month before the start of the school year, over 100 high school students show up early in the morning for 8 hours of practice every day. I’m not talking about the football team. I’m talking about the high school marching band. Each member will be at the school getting in shape, learning how to march, and practicing music for weeks, working to perfect an 8-minute show to perform in front of thousands of people. As a member of the Clear Falls High School band, I know how important marching band is to its members and the high school community. Marching bands across Texas are incredibly valuable not only for their members in high school and the school community but also for its members later in life.…
