Marching Band Research Paper
My Future in the BRHS Band Program When I joined the Bridgewater-Raritan program in August, I did not know what to expect. I knew that band was going to be hard work and a lot different than middle school. Personally, I think I have gotten more out of being a part of the program than I did in middle school, both with my skills and life lessons. I remember one of my first days when Mr. Markiewicz said that we would build an unbreakable relationship with our instrument. I have to admit that when he said that I giggled a little and said “yeah right” to myself. I hate to say it, but Mr. Markiewicz, you were right. I have grown to love practicing; I can feel my fingers responding faster, my air intensity increasing, and my mind becoming more alert whenever I pick up my clarinet. I can look back and see how much I have improved since the last note I played as an eighth grader, and I smile a little bit, knowing that this is only the beginning of my development in music. As far as band class goes, my …show more content…
I think that I owe most of my improvement the BRHS Marching Band. Being a part of an activity that demands you to be the best you can and then some made me feel like I was not a new student. Marching Band taught me a lesson that most people learn when they get to college, time management. “If you are on time, you are late, if you are early you are on time, and if you are late, get ready to run laps.” I have this posted on my bedroom door to remind me that time management is a key life lesson. Balancing the demanding schedule of band and school taught me to not procrastinate. It has also showed me that when you work at something really hard, there is not one thing that can stand in your way when you reach to grab it. I still remember the moment I heard the announcer say the name of our school at the state competition. I can’t describe the excitement I had when I heard that we beat

Education has always been one of the most important things to me, and I am dedicated to learn as much as humanly possible. Throughout my high school career I have challenged myself by completing six advanced placement classes and taking other honors classes. I have taken these classes as a way to help guide myself for what is to come in the future in college. I was inducted into the National Honors Society during my junior year of high school, and I graduated with honors. Both of these successes are the two greatest accomplishments of my high school career. These two achievements prove how dedicated I was, and still am, to getting the best education I could. My quality of dedication will stick with me throughout my future endeavors.…

Balkan-style Brass Bands (Serbian: Труба, trumpet) play a distinctive style of music originating in 19th century Balkans when Roma trumpeters influenced by Turkish marching bands transposed Folk music into brass.[1] It is popular throughout the Balkans, especially Serbia, Macedonia and Bulgaria. The beats are usually fast and accompanied by kolo. The performers each have their instrument of the orchestra and are called trubači (трубачи). The best known examples of acclaimed music in this style are from Goran Bregović and Boban Marković Orkestar. The Serbian film maker Emir Kusturica has, through his films (Black Cat, White Cat), made the style popular in the international community outside the…

    Bob Hope Band Scholarship

From his first steps on the vaudeville stage, to his last USO show, Bob Hope was entertaining. Mr. Hope was a comedian and an actor, yet he still reached an unmatchable caliber of musical ability. While his talents were far greater than mine, I still feel that there are many similarities between us. His love of music inspired me to appreciate its role in my life even more. Since I began playing the saxophone in seventh grade, music has been one of the centers of my life. I compete, perform and most importantly, practice on a consistent basis. The band program at my high school is poorly funded, and thus offers few opportunities in the way of musical challenges. However, because of my love of music and feeling of obligation to my classmates, I continue to be an active member and hold the position of drum major. To further challenge myself, I auditioned for and was accepted to the Louisville Youth Orchestra saxophone ensemble. This ensemble challenges my abilities and requires me to often seek help from my private instructor. While my performances with this ensemble may not be perfect, due to the level of difficulty of the music, I…

Something that I have done that I believe has made my school a better place would be joining Link Crew. Link Crew has allowed me to help the freshman as they join the school. A big influence I had to join Link Crew was that I had a great Link Crew leader that really helped me when I was entering freshman year. Being in Link Crew, I have met many freshman entering the high school that I am able to help just as my Link Crew leader did for me. As a Link Crew leader I started off with a number of students in a group that we meet during their orientation. By having this group, I attend for them to get comfortable and know that they have peers along side them that are adjusting to what they can expect in high school. Throughout the school year, I…

If I am not at school, I usually am either at band practice, exercising, or working. During marching band season, band takes up the vast majority of my time and it takes up even more due to the fact that I am part of the drumline. Our school has the drumline participate in various events around the school causing me to dedicate even more time to band. Once marching band season ends and concert season begins, I begin to dedicate more time towards working and less time towards band. This makes it so that throughout the majority of the school year I do not have much leisure time at all. However every day I do some form of exercising, either running or lifting weights. Recently, I have been preparing to run a half marathon sometime in January.…

Cheerleaders: dumb blondes with fake tans, short skirts, loud voices, and peppy personalities. They just yell and shake poms and jump around cheering for other teams. How hard could it be?
