College Admissions Essay-They All Look The Same
They All Look the Same When I was younger, I didn’t necessarily have the highest grades and I wasn’t the most talented student, but what set me aside from others was my desire to succeed. That desire only transpired when I entered high school. Many people would not assume that I once struggled with reading numbers and words because they all looked the same. When I was five, my teacher made my class count to one hundred every day. I was good at math, but I struggled to identify the numbers two and five. I confused the two numbers every day, so I was miserable every time we did that activity. A few years later, I took a standardized test and my parents and I realized that I had poor comprehension skills. I took extra classes and read constantly, but I had this problem throughout elementary and middle school. It wasn’t until eighth grade that I had talked to my mom about confusing, not just numbers, but letters too. In my mind, some letters looked the same. I would try to write certain words and instead of writing “pack”, I would write “back”. I felt dumb and I would constantly tarnish my self-esteem; I identified myself as a failure. I met my English teacher that same year and her class was centered around writing, my weakness. Since I would still mix up words, I thought I wouldn’t be able to live up to my potential and I was worried that she would see my flaws. I was wrong with my preconceptions because I was constantly doing well with writing in her class. She helped me tremendously and we bonded over my improving grades. I no longer saw myself as a failure and neither did she. To her, I wasn’t the girl who had inadequate writing and comprehension skills. I was the girl who wanted to succeed. I was the girl who saw, for the first time, letters and numbers as separate
