Audio Clip Plan and Script

Title of Audio Clip:
Community Spirit Radio Ad

Story Outline:

I am creating my audio clip for young adults and children. The radio advert will be used to promote an event in the local area that is being run by the governments Community Spirit initiative. The audio clip (advert) will inform people of the event who listen to the radio, maybe in the car on the way to work or when parents are picking up their children from school.

The radio advert will use both primary and secondary sounds. The primary sounds will be those that have been recorded by myself, such as the narration and dialog in the advert. The secondary sounds that will be used in my advert are any music that has been used, or sound effects (like a school bell for example). I will use some existing sounds that are well known because the target audience will be far more likely to memorise a piece of music over spoken language because “music tends to linger in the listeners mind.” – Source: http://mq.oxfordjournals.org/content/73/4/557.full.pdf+html

I will record a voiceover using a headset microphone that will be plugged into a pc, and a piece of software called audacity. Audacity is a free piece of software that allows audio recording an editing. It allows me to use multiple tracks to build up my layers of different audio, and alter them using various effects.

I will export the finished podcast as an MP3 for various reasons. MP3s are compressed audio. This means that they are much smaller in file size. This means that it can be sent out to the radio stations easier as it will be small enough to fit on an email attachment. The second reason for choosing MP3 is that it is the most widely recognised format out there! Almost all PCs and electronic music devices know how to play an MP3 format sound file.

Often varying in message and purpose, commercials and advertisements have proven to be successful forms and methods of mass communication. Some companies may even have more than one commercial in an effort to reach and persuade those that are outside of their usual demographic to begin purchasing their products. Not only taking into account the obvious message, it is important to also analyze and look into the subcomponents, such as imagery and dialogue, that makes conveying their message successful.…

Radio advertisers are only able to appeal to those who have their senses of hearing. On the other hand, television uses both senses of vision and hearing. Appealing to the audience of both senses can help to reinforce your campaign. For instance, a price is spoken on radio and then made better on television.…

My role in the project primarily is the creating, sourcing, developing and processing of audio sound effects and soundscapes. I will basically be searching the net for stock audio clips (i.e. BBC sound effects library) or recording the sounds myself. The sounds will then be processed to optimize the quality until they are considered to be industry standard. Experiments with frequencies in conjunction with music therapy with autism will also be conducted in order to achieve positive results with creating a genuine mood alteration within the condition. This will be done through extensive research into the types of instruments, frequencies and other channels of sound that await for me to discover in order to improve quality of life.…
