1.1. Explain the sequence and rate of each aspect of development from birth to 19 years. Aspects of development should include * Physical * Communication * Intellectual/cognitive * Social, emotional and behavioural * Moral
Social and emotional development is the development of the child’s identity and self-image, relationships and feeling about themselves and learning to live with others in both the family and society which is one of the most important parts of development.
Socialisation can vary in different societies and from family to family. There are two types of socialisation primary and secondary.
Primary socialisation is in the first years of the child’s life within the family environment. It helps the children learn how to interact with others and what is acceptable and what is not.
Secondary socialisation is when children come into contact with people outside their home environment e.g. playgroup, nursery, school, university and throughout their life. It teaches them how to interact with adults, friend and others who are not their family and the rules of society like what is acceptable and what is not outside the home.
Moral development is where children observe other children and adult behaviour, developing a sense of right and wrong. It is important to reinforce this development in certain behaviours e.g. aggression, tantrum, biting, etc.
There are different stages of play: * Solitary play is between approximately 0 – 10 months. * Interdependence play is starting to play with other children for a short time. * Cooperative play is around the age of 3 – 4 years. * Parallel play is playing alongside others
