Snowball And Leon Trotsky Similarities
Snowball from Animal Farm is an important character who symbolizes an important person in the Russian Revolution, Leon Trotsky. They have many similarities like the fact that they were both exiled from the country or farm and were attacked by the tyrant that came after them. There are many similarities and differences between the two. The similarities outweigh the differences because Animal Farm was based off of the Russian Revolution. They both supported a revolution before it even happened. Snowball taught the principles of Animalism and that a Rebellion was inevitable(Orwell, 16). Trotsky did a very similar thing and said that a Revolution against Tsar Nicholas II was coming(“Leon Trotsky”). Trotsky and Snowball both fought for the bettering of their respective country or farm through government and for ultimate power against the tyrants that came after them. They both also took part in organizing armies(“Trotsky is Sent Into Exile”).

Trotsky was under Vladimir Lenin during the Russian Revolution and for quite a while afterwards. He also was in various positions in the government. Snowball did not have these opportunities because of the kind of governing Animal Farm adopted. One of Trotsky’s positions was a war general of sorts(“Leon Trotsky”). He created a standing army for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or USSR. Snowball just organized the animals for the battle of the cowshed and then it was dispersed and the animals went back to working(Orwell, 40).
