What Are The Similarities Between Hitler And Joseph Stalin Totalitarianism
Leighanne Fitzpatrick Totalitarianism Totalitarianism is a political system where the state recognizes no limits to its authority and strives to regulate every aspect of the public and private lives of the people. In Europe Totalitarianism started to rule after the end of World War One. Two examples of totalitarian leaders who are similar and different in many ways are Joseph Stalin and Hitler. Joseph Stalin was the totalitarian leader of the Soviet Union from 1929-1953. As leader Stalin controlled police, education, religion and all other aspects of the people’s lives. This government is known as Communism. In Communism, government officials make all basic economic decisions. In the U.S.S.R Stalin forced all other states to follow Russian culture. In the industrial business, there were difficult weekly goals that had to be met. Those who met the goals received bonuses and those who did not were punished. They both believed in controlling all aspects of the people’s lives, for example, education, government, and religion. In both countries the citizens were expected to have complete loyalty to the state and their leader. These two leaders, both used terror as a way to keep control, they both used secret police and imprisoned anyone they felt threatened by. Another way Joseph Stalin and Hitler are similar is that they both focused on educating the youth. In schools the books were edited to only show what Hitler and Stalin wanted them to learn. Joseph Stalin and Hitler were also different in many ways. Joseph Stalin ruled under Communism while Hitler ruled under fascism.
