In regards to the issue of how effective and efficient mobile-based applications are at capturing customer data and tools that utilize geolocation technology, we will begin with the current state of smartphone app usage and specific processes made in correlation with mobile devices. Experts predict that by 2020 there will be more than three billion mobile devices making 450 billion mobile transactions. Anwar F. Accawi starts the essay “The Telephone” by telling about the way people in his village looked at the time was to notify that time was not important for the people who lived in his village at his period. Accawi in his first paragraph writes that “time didn’t mean much to anybody, except may be to those who were dying , or those waiting appear in court…” from these lines Accawi tries to states that time was not important for every people in his village except for some who were dying and some who were waiting appear in court. Furthermore he tries to explain the shoddiness of the villagers by starting that the villagers didn’t even wanted to know the time. Accawi takes this point as a negative impact of villagers; he expresses the uneducatedness of the villagers by printing “now could you? Satisfied with her answer,” he compares the current situation with his time period.…

Hello everyone this is Derek Yeh with another great book review. Today I will be reviewing the book Sidekicks by Jack D. Ferraiolo. The book is about a boy named Scott Hutchinson who is a sidekick to big time hero Phantom Justice. He is just a normal kid that goes to an expensive private school with many famous kids, not popular and not standing out in any way. However this is what Scott wants others to think so that he remains inconspicuous, so no one will ever think that he is the famous Bright Boy, a superhuman sidekick to Phantom Justice. He meets many conflicts along the way such as finding out that his lifelong arch nemesis Monkeywrench, a superhuman and sidekick to Dr. Chaos, the main antagonist, is actually a girl named Allison that attends the same school as him. They seem to be the exact opposites of each other as Allison is a popular pretty girl and Scott is only a quiet guy that nobody notices but yet they start to hang out and get to know a lot about each other and they secretly fall deeply in love causing problems between the sides of good and evil, the security of his identity and the safety of his loved ones. Scott has to figure out whether the love between Alisson and him is real or if Allison is just using him to destroy him and Phantom Justice for Dr. Chaos. Moments include choosing between justice or love. Choosing between an amazing individual life that Scott has never had before with Allison or remaining to be a sidekick fighting for justice against evil. There are many emotional moments and twists in the story. One emotional moment would be when Scott finds out Phantom Justice and his butler Louis are dead. Things get very emotional as shown in the book “Louis… I whisper. My eyes sting as tears start to form. This isn’t real, It’s not real.” Lastly, some devices used by the author include sexual humor, characterization, pathos and sarcasm. Overall I think this book is good, it feels a bit…

Skype was found in 2003, headquarter in Luxembourg, and now is a division of Microsoft Corporation. Skype provides voice, video calling, instant messaging, and short messaging services through Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP). With the increasing internet users, in nine short years, Skype has 124 million active users (5). Skype users can talk, chat, video conferences for free through the internet, and a small charge if call to landline or mobile telephones. When Skype introduced VoIP to the world, it was not the first company; VocalTech was the company that brought VoIP to the market. However, technology was not as advanced as today, every user had to have the same set up, and quality was not good, VoIP was not as popular as today (4). Technologies improved over time, Skype took advantage of that to gain customers. Skype’s experiences positive revenues every year, however Skype’s revenues did decrease dramatically in 2006 from 685% to 95% in 2007 (2). The reason could have been AT&T introduced VoIP in 2004 (3).…

    Virtually Face to Face

Between the two articles, “Frequently Asked Questions About eLearning” by eLearners.com and “The Sensuous Classroom: Focusing on The Embodiment of Learning” by Suzanne M. Kelly it is easy to gather the differences between a face-to-face school environment and a “virtual classroom”. Although one seems to be neutral to which is better the other clearly states that face-to-face learning is more beneficial. The two articles also look at both sides of the same issue, although Suzanne seems to favor face-to-face learning. The two types of learning both teach the students something, and both have opportunities to “discuss” class material. Although the differences out way the similarities, some may find one better than the other depending on their life style. The pros of an actual classroom may attract more students, especially the hands on learners. For example Suzanne M. Kelly states in her essay that, “none of what I’ve described could have been experienced online” (177). Whereas an online classroom is, “a substitute for traditional education “(178), a room full of real people is just better because there is no, “lack of face-to-face interaction” (182) or, “feelings of isolation” (182). There is nothing that can compare to the quality of learning in a room of real people, or “dragging one’s exhausted body into class with readings in hand, being (more or less) awake, alert, listening, and ready to open ones mouth” (179). As unappealing as that sounds, it’s a great life experience, and there is nothing that comes close to living out real life with real people. Students just can’t get the same quality of education in a “virtual classroom” as in a traditional face-to face-environment. Sure maybe they will save some money, but will they really be living?…

    The Telephone

“Before the telephone came to Magdaluna, Im Kaleem’s house was bustling at just about any time of day, especially at night, when its windows were brightly lit with three large oil lamps, and the loud voices of the men talking, laughing, and arguing could be heard in the street below—a reassuring, homey sound” Anwar F. Accawi (p. 46). It’s hard to imagine that a single device such as the telephone, albeit a breakthrough in technology, could change not only a person’s day to day life, but an entire village. These men in the village experienced all of the luxuries the village had to offer at no cost, Im Kaleem provided the men with a place to gather for conversation, games, drinks and sexual services. The children used to hang around Ima Kaleem’s courtyard playing games waiting for a call down from some of the men requesting errands in exchange for money. But that all changed once the telephone was installed, most of the men would now sit at Abu Raja’s store, “they were always looking up from their games and drinks and talk to glance at the phone in the corner, as if expecting it to ring any minute and bring news that would change their lives and deliver them from their aimless existence”. (p.46) Exposure to the telephone not only affected the men in the village, but it also affected the women, children and their entire way of life.…

Today is Friday.Way too dependent on technology Most kids these days don't even know how to use a dictionary because " Google has it all" so they don't see it as a necessary skill. Look around at how many people are engrossed in their phones walking down the street, or while driving. Most accidents are caused by people using their phones while driving, whether it be for GPS, to get on Facebook or anything else. It's insane for some people to fathom how anyone ever lived without texting, GPS, and Google. Technology is a big help and a big problem. So how do we know when too much is too much when it comes to using all the technology we have today?
