The cost of education is a lot more today. Not only has the price of college gone up but also the price of many private and catholic schools. A college education is essential in today's world. Children cannot hope to better their education if their selves or their parents cannot afford to pay for it. Some children have to rely on themselves to pay for college. Most cannot achieve better education because they can’t afford it on their minimum wage job. Others take out loans which leaves them drowned in debt. Graduating scholars don’t want to start their life off in debt. In the future you are going need a college degree to do almost anything. This proves unfair to us and children coming up.
Tens of millions of Americans are living in poverty. Millions of those in poverty are full-time, minimum wage earning workers. The earnings of minimum wage workers are crucial to their family’s wellbeing. Raising the minimum wage would help uphold some working families exceed the poverty line by mostly solving the primary problem with current minimum wage rate: it has failed to keep pace with inflation and the rising cost of living. In addition to providing a much-needed boost to low-wage families, increasing the minimum wage would also have other positive economic effects. Women and minorities who simply don’t have the skills to do certain jobs benefit from higher income. Immigrants come here to start a new life. With a new minimum wage they wouldn’t have to struggle as much and they could live in better conditions. This would help relieve discrimination against women and minorities and substitute for the market leverage these workers do not have. This would reduce income inequality, helping better us a country.
