Short Story: Peanut Baby
Peanut
She and Harry planned on having children. She wanted someone that had Harry’s eyes and cute dimples. He wanted someone with her nose and her world-stopping smile. Two years of marriage brought that moment of what next. One night Harry pounced on her, causing her to erupt in giggles. She set the book down on the night table.
“Harry, what has gotten into you?” She lifted his heavy head from her neck so his eyes were looking into her eyes.
“I want a baby.” He mumbled, ducking down to her neck.
She swore that in that moment she had already become pregnant. Her stomach fluttered with joy. She couldn’t wait to start trying for a baby. She pulled his lips to her lips in a passionate kiss. The journey to becoming pregnant began.

Months later, she stood in the studio watching Harry sing a new song he had wrote for the new baby. She cried at the sweet words while she rubbed her huge belly. She remembers the night that Harry couldn’t find the right name for his little girl until she circled one in the book of names. Emmy Styles, the new name for the beautiful princess. Harry didn’t expect her water to break a few seconds after he finished the song. They rushed to the hospital. Twelve hours later she gave birth to the little peanut. Harry never cried more in that day than his entire life.
Emmy had finally reached that age where she was allowed to be at restaurants. At seven months old she was allowed to start tasting solid foods. She and Harry hadn’t been on a date since Emmy was born, so they decided to go on a date with Emmy. Harry dressed his little peanut in a pink dress that Anne had bought her. Emmy cooed at her daddy, and he talked to the little angel. The missus switched to put on Emmy’s shoes that her parent’s had bought her while Harry got dressed. Emmy was a daddy’s girl, but she loved her momma’s cuddles. The ride to the restaurant was full of them both talking to keep Emmy from crying. The baby sat still in her baby chair at the restaurant. She watched everyone that passed by. Harry ordered drinks for the missus and

She didn’t notice the heartbreak on Emmy’s face as her daddy left. Soft whimpers started which drew the missus toward the baby.
“What’s wrong? Do you want more juice?” Emmy looked at the missing spot and started to wail.
“Oh baby, what’s wrong?” The missus jumped to pick up the crying baby.
Emmy didn’t have a full diaper, she wasn’t hungry or thirsty, and she wasn’t hot. She was probably tired. The missus hummed while she patted the baby’s back, but nothing was working. People started to stare at the mom who couldn’t stop her crying baby. It wasn’t until Harry returned that the baby reached out for comfort. The missus suddenly knew what happened when Harry held her and she calmed down.
“Emmy just thought you left. She wouldn’t stop crying.” The missus giggled at her cute baby.
“What? I would never leave you peanut. I would take you to everywhere, but the men’s bathroom is no place for a lady. I’ll always be here.” He told the baby. Emmy giggled, pressing a kiss to Harry’s face.
“Awe, can I have a kiss?” Harry handed the baby to his wife so she could be smothered in slobbery kisses.
“I’ll just get the check. We can have dessert at home.” Harry whispered

Their consuming determination to provide a better lifestyle for their child made them ignorant to his fundamental requirements. As a result of the couple's neglect, their son's potential was destroyed: "The child was quite cold. It had been her arms, perhaps, too frantic to protect him, or the smother of dust upon his throat and lungs.... He knelt transfixed... touching fearfully with his fingertips the dust-grimed cheeks and eyelids of the child." In contrast to the rosy cheeks of a baby who receives kisses and love, their child's face is lifeless and grey with grime. Ironically, it was Paul and Ellen's overwhelming concern for their baby and his future that prevented the couple from giving him care and love. Obscured by his prideful aspirations, Paul insisted that his son remain on their drought-ravaged farm in order to enjoy a prosperous life. In doing so, however, he only "smothered dust upon [his son's] throat and lungs". At the same time, Ellen's devotion to her child's future blinded her to his present needs. Her "frantic" impulse to run away from her husband's dead-end goals and into the storm only allowed the layer of "grime [upon] his cheeks and eyelids" to thicken. Ellen and Paul both believed that they were working for their baby's best interests; yet both of them were so focused on attaining their own goals that they inadvertently left their child uncared for. The couple's single-minded concern for their son's future deprived him of the attention and warmth that a rosy baby requires. In the heat of Ellen and Paul's senseless battles over the best interests of their son, he died "quite cold" and…

Of course at least one little blond haired child came toddling up to her, she couldn't have been older than one or two with big blue doe eyes. She tugged lightly at Isabellas shirt causing the dark haired woman to look down at her the sight of the little girl melting her heart almost instantly. " SO CUTEEEE I just can't!", she said as she scooped the child up from the floor snuggling her face against the child's. " Aren't they just adorable little innocent bundles of love? We need more of these. More kiddies to love~ Maybe we can kill the monsters with cuteness.", without realizing it Isabella had been talking in her baby voice all the while nearly snuggling this child with all her might. " You need to have a baby Anastas so I can spoil it. I bet you would make beautiful kids~ Probably super smart too.", she certainly wasn't afraid to embarrass someone by telling them to have children that was for sure. She would soon give the child a piece of candy and send her on her way with a…
