Along with college comes the challenge of writing multiple essays about many different topics. You could write essays about things that you read in a book to scientific principles that you have conducted research on. Throughout high school writing has never been my favorite subject and has been my weakest. Considering English is such an important part of education today, everyone must take a certain number of English classes to graduate. Almost every course in college requires you to write an essay about research that you have done in the course, results from an experiment that you conducted in the class, or even an essay about what you have learned over the previous semester. I see myself having to write a lot in my Chemistry 144 class. In that class we will be conducting experiments and then have to write a formal lab report after the experiment. The lab report will require us to write what we did in the experiment, how we did the experiment, what happened during it, and try to explain why we believe something occurred during an experiment. Being an engineering major, I can see myself writing essays on current engineering issues we face today and how I think those issues can be resolved. Writing can be a key part of the problem solving process because if you write out what the issue is it can create an idea of what the solution can

I am Janelle Bautista, a college freshman, and I do not know what I am doing right now. Each year, my English teachers would give various essays, and every time the whole class had no clue what to write. Everyone would all stare at the computer screen blankly, and ponder as to where to start. However, once an idea sparks, the first sentence turns into a paragraph then it finally becomes pages long. When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. Before taking this English 101-A course, I had a particular perception when it came to writing essays and English language. In High school, I was a really lazy student. As lazy as they can come, I was that times 10. For as long as I can remember I had always coasted through Elementary school and Middle school with really great grades. I would take honor roll courses and get straight A’s and 1 B almost every year. So by the time I had reached my first year in High school 9th grade, I decided I didn’t have to pay attention to anything or anybody because I thought I was so smart. I literally attended school from 9th grade to 12th grade to pass. I thought it would serve no higher purpose to me other than a time to get in some solid nap time, get…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…

Writing has not always been a strong suit of mine. Even in the present moment I sometimes struggle with writing. I have done numerous papers, ranging from daily journals to argumentative essays. I will admit that the older I grew I realized that writing helps in many ways. It can be a form of stress relieving, which I sometimes take into consideration when I have sort of a lot going on mentally. Many writing assignments were about what I liked to do hobby-wise, what my plans were for the future career/ school-wise, how I felt about certain discussed subjects nationwide such as the election of a black president, the rights for gay marriage, as well as oversea discussions, like the human trafficking in Thailand.…

Essay writing was a major part of the class. We wrote essay on race and ethnicity, gay matters, language technique essays. Each essay taught us about a different style or form of writing. Comparison and contrast essays taught us how to write an essay comparing two similar things. This type of essay was my favorite to write. In my essay I compared the careers of Lebron James and Kobe Bryant. The most difficult essay for me to write was the argument essay in which we were to defend a point using strong argument skills. For my argument essay I supported the argument that rap music is music of resistance. I can honestly say my essay skills have improved tremendously over the course of this year thanks to the many skills learned in this class.…
