Sedentary Lifestyles Daily Living Routines consume most of the day. Dr. Richard Weiler, and Dr. Emmanuel Stamatakis discuss their views in the article “Laziness will send us to an early grave,” that most peoples excuse for being inactive is not having enough time. However On average people waste three hours watching TV a day. People are inactive because of technology. Being inactive causes illness and reduces the quality of life. Exercise is important because most days are spent inactive due to daily routine. In the article “Sedentary living is the most prevalent disease, biggest silent killer and greatest health threat facing developed countries,” Dr. Richard Weiler and Dr. Emmanuel Stamatakis said, “95% of the UK population are not even doing the minimum recommended amounts of physical activity.” It is recommended to exercise thirty minutes a day, five days a week to get health benefits. Dr. Richard Weiler and Dr. Emmanuel Stamatakis compare inactivity to smoking they give the statistics as, “every week spent inactive is roughly equivalent to smoking a packet of cigarettes.” Just being active can prevent illness. A common disease caused by being inactive is type two diabetes. Type two diabetes is when the body resist the pancreases insulin. James Rimmer gives statistics in the article, “Sedentary Lifestyle is Dangerous to Your Health,” such as “every 2 hours that a person watches TV, the risk of type 2 diabetes increased to 14%.” The numbers are frightening. Diabetes is one of many that is an effect of having a sedentary lifestyle. Heart disease is also a concern. People who are sedentary have the highest risk of heart attack. Many choose a sedentary lifestyle because of the multiple entertainments offered at home. A main cause of inactivity is electronics such a gaming devices and television.
