History
Samsung Group, which has grown into one of the world’s leading electronic companies, was started by Lee Byung-Chull on March 1st, 1938 with only 30,000 won, (which is the equivalent to almost 28 USD), in Daegu, Korea. For thirteen years, Samsung specialized in exporting many household Korean foods to Manchuria and Beijing, eventually growing large enough to become Samsung Corporation. Lee had a dream to make Samsung a major leading corporation in many industries, so he began the establishment of Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance in 1958, Samsung Life Insurance in 1963, and Samsung Everland in 1966. By the end of the 1960’s, Samsung-Sanyo Electronics began producing its very first black-and-white television. During the 1970’s, Samsung began to establish itself as a manufacturer of heavy chemical and petrochemical products, establishing companies like the Samsung Heavy Industries Company in 1974 and Samsung Shipbuilding and Samsung Precision Company in 1977. Around this period of prosperity, Samsung Electronics managed to produce its one-millionth black-and-white television, and continued that growth to its four-millionth television in 1978. During this growth, Samsung also began producing its first color television. By the end of the decade, Samsung began the mass production of microwave ovens.
During the early 1980’s, Samsung began to diversify and expand internationally. Samsung began by separating its two companies, Samsung Semiconductor and Samsung Electronics, into two different entities. Samsung also established a leading research industry, Samsung Aerospace Industries, and began making breakthroughs at “unprecedented speed ever since”. In 1988, Samsung developed two research and development institutions to focus on technology. Samsung has reached many milestones while it conducted its expansions, including: exporting the first

Although they are at different locations, all share the same goal and that goal is satisfying global customers by producing a quality product. Here in the U.S. Samsung is a very recognized brand, sitting along side Sony, Panasonic, Phillips, Toshiba, Matsushita and other more know brands of TVs. In South Korea, Samsung was a governmentally subsidized large business until in the 1990 's. In the mid 1990 's one of the most significant threats to Korean corporations was that their major advantage in low labor cost had been deteriorating against the labor costs in many of the competing Southeast Asian countries. The average wage of $1,144 a month that Korean workers earned was one of the highest wages paid in Asia outside of Japan. Korea had been the low cost labor supplier until the point at which The Peoples ' Republic of China entered the competition for manufacturing of color TVs. The low cost of labor in China would cause Korea 's position being the lowest cost provider to be a position that was in danger. The Korean government at this point was discontinuing subsidies and export credits to Korean manufacturers and at this time the Korean products which had been the low end market…
