Same Day-Personal Narrative
Sept. 23, 1957: They finally returned today. All of the members of the LR9 made an appearance at school, or at least tried to. You weren’t around to see it, but the LR9 did not have the most exhilarating day. Maybe I should say half day. They didn’t stay very long, I believe they left at about noon. Thelma Mothershed was in three of my classes, and every time I faced her she looked sick to her stomach. However, I don’t think she was cold and flu sick, I would look the same way if I couldn’t make it down the hallway without being bulldozed or called a cruddy name. One of the students kicked Thelma in the back of her knees, causing her to collapse on top of her books. When I saw that, I thought of you. I knew that’s not what you wanted for these kids. You wanted them to get a proper education, not to be bullied everyday by biased …show more content…
25 1957: A segment of our nation's army arrived at my school today. This might not be what you wanted to hear, but no one in Little Rock took you seriously until we saw the big green fighting machines in full view. They were all taller than me, every single one of them, and all of them gave the same type of look on their face. A look of importance.

It was easy to tell everyone started holding back more from their protests to stop integration after your soldiers moved nicely into the Little Rock High School football field, but people were mad too. Mad at their President for doing a civil justice. That’s one wrecked society. A society that would rather launch a bomb than let kids get their education based on the color of their skin. I find it sad that you had to send in a portion of our nation’s army in the first place. It shouldn’t take that much force to try and uphold our Constitution. You’re just trying to enforce the ruling of separate not being equal and everyone deserving the same quality of education. You’re not really biased Mr. President, but some people still find a way to become outraged by nothing - Elise

People have rioted against Uncle Sam, like the South during the Civil War and to some the Ferguson rioters. Often times people riot only because they feel they are unheard by their government and only want solutions to their problems. Riots have long been a part of American history, America itself was birthed from a riot against the tyrannical British power. How can a nation be calm when schools are terrorized, people of color are murdered by police officers with no consequences, marathoners are bombed, buildings are blown up and thousands of men and women are sent off to war to fight a war they sometimes don’t even understand? Clearly, America is not calm but is instead very tempestuous. Acts of free speech are labeled and attacked in the media as riots while true riots, like those at a mall in Kentucky on December 28th, 2015 or at a beer festival in Tampa, Florida in March, 2014 are ignored and laughed at instead of treated as the actual pointless and dangerous riots they…

It was a bright sunny Wednesday afternoon and I was walking towards my car. I got out of class early and was heading home to get myself ready to spend time with my bright and intelligent students. Sometimes when I get out of class my body feels overwhelmed and tired. Perhaps it feels this way because of all the things that are going on in my life like family, friendship, relationship, community service, and homework assignments. I feel like I am very busy that I often do not have time for myself. However when I arrived to El Jardin that quickly changes. The students that I work with on Wednesday fill my life with positive attitude and energy that I often forget about the worries and stress that I encounter during the day. I really love my Wednesday shift more than my Tuesday shift because I have a stronger connection and attachment towards the two girls that I work with. On Wednesday’s, I work with two bright and intelligent 6th grade girls named Arisa and Janet. Both of them have special qualities and a sweet kind heart.…

I made myself breakfast in bed. I added salt and pepper to my eggs and used my toast to create a cheese and bacon sandwich. I squeezed the juice, the life from a grapefruit into a glass. I scraped the charred remains from the frying pan and rinsed the red substance off the counter. I washed the dishes and folded the towels.…

Today was the day. The big day. My election for Lieutenant Governor of Division 2B for Key Club, an international service club, was today. Fear and anxiety pricked my skin in rapid movements emanating from every pore. I rehearsed my speech for the fifth time that day. Upon arrival at the Fairfax Library, I urged myself to remain calm. I quickly scouted out the other girls who were present; one girl was dressed professionally with a folder in her hand. I knew that was my competition. The girl spoke eloquently and genially, she radiated enthusiasm and a certain warmth that I did not have. With every question that was asked, she answered with a smooth smile and high-pitched tone that was dripping with sincerity. I bristled inside; I had just been slapped. I was shrouded in a cloud of anxiety and anxiousness. Suddenly, I was dragged from my reverie.…

Sunday was calm and it was time for her to go to the outlet. Cami is an ordinary fifteen year old who is obsessed with shopping and movies. She walked swiftly as she was holding five bags just from the athletic department store, Nike. Cami eats, breathes and sleeps soccer and only buys her outfits at Nike. Once Cami arrived to soccer practice after a full day of shopping, around nine o’clock at night, she always feels a breeze of air and a smell of blood as she runs back and forth down the field. Cami always thought it was just herself, her teammates, her coach and her family in the stadium. The more she came to her games, the more she felt uncomfortable. Cami could never put a finger on what was happening, but one second she was fine and then…

How did it go so fast? It was only three years. Three years full of ups and downs, fails and success, and truly growing to become the person I am today. Life goes by too fast, but there are many memories that will stick with me like glue forever. During middle school I experienced so many things that impacted my life. Through activities such as soccer, church retreats, camps, and everything else I have made strong friendships and relationships that I will never forget. Throughout middle school I have truly grown religiously, built ever lasting friendships, and developed many athletic skills all leading to an amazing middle school experience.…

A peak moment in my life is the poetry slam the creative writing class held last year in the Little Theatre. I’ve never been confident in my writing or art and always talked down on myself about how I will never be good enough. Even with my lack of confidence Ewing convinced me to get on stage and read something. I was terrified of reading my writing in front of a sea of faces every hour, but it really wasn’t that bad. I grew more confident with my writing every time I read and I made it to the finals in the competition when I never thought I’d make it past the first round. That whole experience really help shaped me to becoming a strong, confident person.…

My last day of inter was supposed to be on Monday this week. I was scheduled to meet with her at 10:00. Then 10 turned to 12 and 12 turned to no coming in at all. She called me around 1:30 and told me that she has been busy. While I was waiting for her I was doing online course for Homestead. All staff members are required to have continuing education and I get to get the same certificates as them. The courses are very interesting. They told me to print the certificates and add them to my resume and it would be beneficial. Also, when she called me to reschedule she told me to call this Hispanic family to see if we could meet with them on Thursday. This is the only Hispanic family we have at Homestead and she asked me to join her to interpret…

Mrs. McCarthy silently leads me to her office. I’ve only been in here once. It was to plan my future. A future I will no longer have. Pamphlets line the walls, offering various solutions to make-believe problems. She sits in her La-Z-Boy desk chair, ripping apart at the seams from old age. To clarify,I’m referring to the ancient counselor, not the chair. “I have brought you here because I have some concerns regarding a particular party over the previous weekend. Do you have any idea what I’m talking about?”…
