Romeo And Juliet: Friar Laurence
Most people would not consider Friar Laurence to be the most important character, what with his many mistakes, sneaky plans, and abused power. But yet, if you look at all his mistakes, and plans combined, he was the one who ultimately ended the feud. Friar Laurence had the most power over both families, being a wise counselor and unbiased in the feud, so he was able to give advice to Romeo and Juliet, who followed blindly. Looking at his role in the play, you see that he was a powerful person, who, by making mistakes, and giving counsel, could stop the hate between two families. He was the one who ended the feud between the Montague and Capulet families, helping them reconcile.

If Juliet was provided with the opportunity to send a letter to Romeo, she would write to him about all the subsequent events, after he fled, that led up to her seeking of the Friar. This would include the planned marriage with Paris on Thursday and Capulet’s outrage over her disobedience. In her letter, she would include the details of Friar Laurence’s plan and notify Romeo of her worries regarding the possible outcomes. Given the unexpected series of events which occurred and the chaos that it entailed, Juliet is certainly flustered, heartbroken, worried, and enraged, all at the same time. This excess of negative emotions will surely cause her overall tone to seem desperate and cloud her thinking. She will most definitely assure Romeo of…

In Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Friar Lawrence’s plan to assist the two young lovers goes horribly wrong. In my opinion I believe that Friar Lawrence should not be punished or rewarded. I believe this because the two lovers were not meant to be together and there was nothing he could do to stop it. Although he did try his best to help them get around the consequences of attempting to be together. Friar Lawrence did this by creating a plan that would secretly get Romeo and Juliet back together again. Another reason that greatly influenced my opinion on this was that he only wanted to help. Friar Lawrence was not trying to sabotage anyone or ruin anything. He was simply attempting to mend the feud between the two families. He believed that…

Imagine never having a say in anything. Imagine having someone tell you who to love. How would anyone be able to handle that. What if you loved someone so much, you would rather die than not be with them, but your family hates their family, forcing you to do the same. Now imagine you are Romeo, or Juliet, from Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. This is the exact situation they were put in. Romeo a Montague, and Juliet a Capulet, two names in feud, fall in love with each other. When faced with a decision, instinctively, one would evaluate the pros and cons subsequent to the outcome. Although everyone seeks a positive end result, more often than not, negative repercussions will accompany one’s choice. This phenomenon is supported by the ideology that all existing entities in the world hold the power for both vice and virtue, thus branding everything as a double-edged sword. Throughout the famous, Shakespearean tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare addresses this philosophy using Friar Laurence, a wise religious man, as the messenger. In the play, the Friar commentates on the binary qualities of nature; he proclaims that although herbs can be deadly poisons, they can also function as medicinal antidotes when…

One of the main characters was Friar Lawrence who performs Romeo and Juliet’s marriage and “helps” them throughout the entire play. Under many circumstances, he was the most common blame for everything. Many believed he was unwise, foolish but also good hearted while making rational decisions for Romeo and Juliet. Friar acts foolishly and unwise because, firstly, he marries Romeo and Juliet when they go to him. They are so young that it made them vulnerable and unable to make considered decisions. Friar Lawrence's other foolish action is giving Juliet a potion that will put her into a death-like sleep. He is unable to think through these decisions and does everything to be the “hero” of the play. Friar is also good hearted though. He helps the lovers because he thinks it will stop the feud between the two families. Even though it didn’t end up how he wanted it to end up, nothing that happened was intentional or on purpose.…

To this day it is still a highly respected play. Due to its popularity, there have been multiple films produced using this tragic love story. This study of Romeo and Juliet is based on the 1996 film version directed by Baz Luhrmann, in which Luhrmann keeps aspects of Shakespeare alive through certain techniques such as symbolism, and Christianity and themes of love and fate. Symbolism is evident in the film through many techniques Luhrmann uses to involve important aspects, yet adds a modern twist to make it current. The main theme of love is between Romeo and Juliet who are star-crossed lovers. Fate is experienced when Romeo and Juliet die together inside the church. Lastly, Christianity was highly valued by all characters in Shakespeare’s play and Luhrmann has shown his understanding through keeping many Christian symbols, values and artifacts in the film.…
