Romeo and Juliet is a heart breaking play, involving a numerous amount of emotions such as hatred, love and violence. Even though it seems the play is about love and happiness there are many scenes involving violence and conflict. For example the play begins with a brawl in the streets of fair Verona and ends up with the two main characters death being introduced to the play (Romeo and Juliet), also other beloved members of both families end with tragic deaths. The unique and refined play was made in Italy in the sixteenth century. In that day and age the public would off loved any opportunity that they had to go and watch anything what shows a vast amount of different types of emotional behaviour such as violence and members of the play showing their undying love for one another. In this essay I will discuss the repercussions love can have such as violence and major conflict between one society and another.
The violent opening of act 1 scene 1 immediately catches the audience’s attention. The reason being to this is because we are presented with the violent brawl involving both servants from each of the two families Capulet and Montague in the public street of Verona. The opening scene introduces the theme of the play and therefore gives a small taste of the rest of the violent upcoming events. This scene shows us the ridiculous and immature boys that are intent on disturbing the streets of Verona. For example, Tybalt exclaims "Have at thee, coward!" Obviously, this suggests that a fight is about to take place at the present moment. This highlights the fact that Tybalt is consumed with hatred and doesn't care about anything apart from violence and conflict.
In contrast with Tybalts aggressive behaviour, love is beginning to make Romeo a lot less violent and not as interested in fighting witch shows the contrast between love and hate that love is stronger than hatred as Romeo is not involved in the violence. This brings us to the...

In William Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet, Juliet speaks of her love for Romeo to herself on her balcony in Act 2, Scene 2. Juliet’s obedience to her family is violated when she falls in love with Romeo Montague instead of County Paris. In Juliet’s soliloquy, she ponders “’tis but thy name that is my enemy,” (2.2.38) meaning a name is a meaningless title in the way of her love. Juliet’s use of personification enhances the stupidity of the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets because a name is restraining her love. Upon meeting Romeo, Juliet is able to see past Romeo’s name and view Romeo as a person not the enemy. Juliet realizes Romeo would still be the same without the name Montague and leads her to the question, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any word would smell as sweet,” (2.2.43-44). Juliet reveals through the metaphor Romeo’s true identity has a stronger effect than a name. The effect is so strong it causes Juliet to disregard the thoughts of her family. She wills Romeo to “doff thy name” and in return she will rid herself of “thy name, which is no part of thee.” (2.2.48). Juliet offers herself to Romeo, to turn her back on her family, and to be with him. The theme is expressed of suffering love that cannot be because of her families’s rejection of a title in a person’s name. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play written by William Shakespeare. “Hatred and violence breed only tragedy”, is a major theme in this play. The Montague and Capulet are two rival families. They were involved in a family feud that goes back years before anyone can remember. However, the grudge still continues, due to the fact that both families are not ready to forgive and forget the past. The families’ ongoing quarrels and feud, lead to the deaths of several characters including the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. The characters who died first in Romeo and Juliet are Mercutio and Tybalt. They were associated in each other’s deaths. Tybalt, hot-tempered cousin of Juliet, vowed to get revenge on Romeo for sneaking in to the Capulet Ball without an invitation. The day Tybalt came seeking for Romeo, is the day he was wedded to young Juliet. Romeo wants to keep peace between him and his new relative but Tybalt keeps tantalizing him with rude insults and remarks.
