Responsibility In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
With great power comes responsibility. The power to manipulate people is especially powerful. Friar Laurence has that exact power, the ability to manipulate two young, lover sick teenagers named Romeo & Juliet written by the world renown William Shakespeare. The two of them seek help from the Friar Laurence and he comes up with a plan to fake Juliet's death and shortly after, have Romeo save Juliet from the family tomb and live happily ever after with each other. Unfortunately, Romeo is received fake information that Juliet has actually died. Romeo becomes completely mad and goes to Juliet's tomb to send his last few minutes with her before committing suicide. Juliet wakes up immediately after Romeo has committed suicide and commits suicide …show more content…
In the 1968 rendition of Romeo and Juliet, the messenger Friar John has a great deal of luggage on his horse. If Friar Laurence were to deliver the message himself, then he would have been able to ride faster than Friar John since John's horse would have significantly more weight than Friar Laurence's horse with no luggage. In the 1996 rendition of Romeo and Juliet, Lawrence is seen sending a letter through a public and crowded mailing system. The mailing system is always sending countless packages and letters constantly, less time would be spent if Friar Laurence just drove to Romeo directly, bypassing all the needless traffic in the mailing system. Friar Laurence could have even requested Romeo's servant and friend, Balthazard to send the letter. Balthazard would have no problem in being able to quickly send the letter. “Balthazard body sleeps in Capel’s monument, And her immortal part with angels lives. I saw her laid low in her kindred’s vault, And presently took post to tell it you. O, pardon me for bringing these ill news,” (Shakespeare, 622). That quote proves that Balthazard would give the information as fast as he could, because he reported Juliet's “death” to Romeo so …show more content…
However, it seems that Friar is unable to distinguish if the Romeo and Juliet's situation is safe and in control. News Flash, This situation is clearly out of control. “Juliet Tell me not, friar, that thou hear’st of this, Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it: If, in thy wisdom, thou canst give no help, Do thou but call my resolution wise, And with this knife I’ll help it presently” (Shakespeare, 617). The quote proves that Juliet is suicidal, so this is clearly out of Laurence's control, any situation with suicidal thoughts is a delicate situation that must be taking care with extreme precision, which includes many people. So why doesn’t Friar Laurence obtain some help? He could explain this to death Romeo and Juliet's parents and have them hopefully understand their deep love. However, both families are so controlled by their anger that they can’t think straight. So a better idea would be to speak with the Prince. The Prince seems one of the few characters who seem to be sane, so the Prince will surely understand the love between the two teens and explain this to their parents. All Friar Laurence would need to do is to set up time to talk with the Prince. The prince will surely listen to the Friar. Problem

I believe that Friar Laurence is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence was the one that gave Juliet the potion that made her appear dead, therefore misleading Romeo and causing him to kill himself. Friar Laurence says “Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And this distilled liquor drink thou off; When presently through all thy veins shall run A cold and drowsy humor; no pulse, no warmth, no breath.” When Friar Laurence was figuring out this plan he could had come up with something safer or a backup plan just in case something went wrong. He also should had thought of the pros and cons of this plan before he went through with it because he was faced with a huge problem when the plan could not get through to Romeo and…

Although there are many people to blame for their deaths, one person can for sure be blamed for this. As solving huge problems in life, some come with a cost. In the great play, Romeo and Juliet, written and directed by William Shakespeare, two young ,pressured, star-crossed lovers take their lives so they can finally be together in the after world. Romeo and Juliet did not make these choices on their own. In the play most characters had an impact on our two lovers to choice to take their own lives, but I think these three characters( Tybalt, Friar John, and Juliet) had more significance on both for Romeo and Juliet.…

First of all, he is the one that had the idea for Juliet to drink the fake poison. He states, "take thou this vial, being then in bed, and this distilled liquor drink thou off... and then awake as from a pleasant sleep." (1021-1022) This means that if the friar never had the idea to have Juliet fake her death, Romeo would have never killed himself. There would have been no letter to be sent to Romeo, and nobody would have to worry about anyone's deaths. Also, Friar Laurence never knew that the letter would not get to Romeo. Secondly, Friar Laurence was the one who married them in the first place. He knew that they were forbidden to get married. He thought that if he married them, the drama and fighting between their families would stop. Friar Laurence states ¨in one respect I´ll assist be; For this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancor to pure love¨(980) This is saying that not knowing what marrying Romeo and Juliet could cause, but he did it anyway. Little did he know that is would wound up with both of them dead. He thought that if they were married, nothing could go wrong. The friar thought there would be a happily ever after. If he never married them, then Juliet would learn that she has to do what she told, and not go behind her parents back. Both of these quotes explain that Friar Laurence is easily to blame for the tragic deaths of Romeo and…

In the play “Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare I blame the reason for their tragedy on Friar Laurence. In the play the Friar married Romeo and Juliet to each other and didn’t inform the Capulet's nor the Montague's. The Friar also tried to help Juliet by giving her a sleeping potion so she wouldn’t have to marry Paris. He also failed to deliver the letter to Romeo saying that Romeo didn’t die, but she was in fact sleeping. “I could not send it here it is again nor get a messenger to bring it thee so fearful were they of infection” (Shakespeare 470). Lastly the Friar had blamed the two lover's death of Romeo and Juliet when both the Capulet's and Montague's had heard of there passings.…

Why is blame so easy to hand out yet so hard to be handed? By definition, blame is the responsibility for a fault or wrongdoing. People tend to blame others or events for the sorrows in their lives, yet most can never stop and accept the repercussions of their own actions. For example, a bad test grade can only put blame onto the taker for not studying or seeking help. Likewise, a mere victim of a random shooting cannot be held accountable for the actions of the shooter, who is blamed fully. However, in the tragic ending of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the plot is full of accusations and offenders, not a single guilty party. When pin pointing blame for the outcome of the play, it can be dispersed across the board. However, there are multiple…

The Friar was the root of Romeo and Juliet’s death. The Friar thought he could just make an ill-advised decision of marrying the two young children without their parents consent: ‘“this alliance may so happy prove’” he thought it would make their families reunite but in reality it was a very dimwitted choice (Shakespeare 2.4.91). Now even though he made this one wrong decision does not make him accountable for Romeo and Juliet’s death but the problem is that, that was not the only careless mistake he made: “’like death…cheeks shall fade …”’ he gave Juliet a potion that would make her appear dead. This potion made her seem dead to everyone that saw her including Romeo who already had an overwhelming dose of emotional stress which caused him to commit suicide. Even though it seems like the Friar might have been innocent towards this whole situation, he played a big part in the death of Romeo and…
