Research Objectives and Problem Definitions at Managerial and Marketing Levels
Founded in 2011, the GreenSheet product is a 6 inch square of specialty paper infused with organic extracts that allows produce to remain fresh two to four times longer than average (GreenSheet brochure, 2011). GreenSheet is a small but expanding business that is interested in investing their capital in marketing to promote the firm’s growth.
With limited distribution, they currently sell their product at Dealer Jose’s. GreenSheet derives their consumer base from two main segments:
1. those who are "socially conscious" who may be willing to pay more for "green" products,
2. and those who wish to save money by reducing their personal amount of fresh produce spoilage.
GreenSheet has decided to investigate whether or not college students are a suitable target market in an effort to determine whether or not they should actively invest in a marketing campaign directed at that specific demographic.
The marketing manager would like to better understand the eating habits and social characteristics of college students, in an effort to see if they fit the profile for a consumer group that GreenSheet should actively pursue.

Research Objectives

The general purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of college students’ shopping, eating and social habits to determine their interest in purchasing GreenSheet. A careful review of the areas to be addressed led to the identification of the following research objectives:
1. To determine college students’ eating and shopping habits in general, and specifically, related to the purchase of fresh produce.
2. To understand college students’ perceptions of their shopping consumer behavior (i.e., in terms of socially conscious, environmentally friendly, saving money).
3. To determine the likelihood of college students purchasing GreenSheet.

Some questions required a simple yes or no answer and others required the participants to respond by writing a numerical response. Through developing the questions the researcher made every attempt to develop the legitimacy of the questionnaire and the trustworthiness of the data collected. The survey questions were intended to increase the consistency of each answer that was given by the interviewee on the survey.…

The model is composed altogether of nine phases (http://ctb.ku.edu/). The first stage in the program planning phase deals with identifying and evaluating the social problems that have an impact on the quality of life of a population of interest. Diabetes is the most common disorder of the endocrine system and it is when the body cannot make insulin or utilize it resulting in a higher than normal blood sugar. There are three different types of diabetes which are type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes is when a woman experiences diabetes only while pregnant and it goes away after the birth of her child. Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body 's immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, which would usually make insulin that is used by the body to monitor blood sugar levels. Type 2 diabetes is when the body produces insulin, but the amount is not adequate enough or the body is not efficient in using the insulin that it has. Type 1 and type 2, diabetes affects the body in the same fashion, leaving no way to regulate blood sugar, diabetic’s blood sugar levels can sky rocket and be extremely dangerous. Team A has been tasked with analyzing the Excel data set of freshmen’s weight both before and after their first semester at a leading state university. The freshmen lived in either an on-campus dorm (O), or a private off-campus dorm managed by DormsRUs (D), who claims their students have a healthier lifestyle. After carefully reviewing the clean data, which includes the subjects, on and off campus dorms, initial and final weight, and gender, two research questions was presented. How many female students lost weight during their freshmen year? How many male students lost weight during their freshmen year? Six is the number of female students who lost weight during their freshmen year. The number of male students who lost weight during their freshman year is 10. This would be of interest to DormsRUs management as well as incoming students because only one of the students who lost weight lived in an on-campus dorm. The most interesting research question concerning the topic but cannot be answered through this data set is, “What is the activity level of the students who participated in this study?” If Team A had to redesign this study, the team came to a consensus that the activity level of the students would be collected.…

The Food Court alone is packed full of unhealthy yet appealing options such as Wendy’s, Pizza Hut, Chinese food and Quiznos. Aside from the food court, there are also several coffee shops offering pastries and small hut-like stands offering energy drinks and candy bars for those on the go. For the students that reside on the campus, as well as any others who decide pay the absurd fee, can eat in the dining hall which offers more nutritional food options, as well as the food being freshly made. In order for students to perform well in class, the body needs certain nutrients, which the current dining options on campus to not provide conveniently or economically. “Relations are what matter most, and the health of the cultivated turns on the health of the wild” (Pollan 292). This quote derived from Michael Pollan’s essay on Polyface farms illustrates that the junk food people in today’s society are ingesting is not only negatively affecting one’s own health and those around them, but the animals we are ingesting as well. Pollan displays how everything eventually in one way or another ends up in a cycle. So if we are buying incredibly cheap processed food, our livestock is eating even more…

In proving our hypothesis of, if students eat breakfast, than they will receive good grades, we developed a survey in asking such questions to figure out about eating habits of high school students before school. Our group started out in developing a survey, based on our topic, and handed out in a convenient sample. 84 surveys were taken, and collected, to further receive interesting stats based on the questions answered by the students. This survey consisted of a total of 10 questions. Four questions were based on a Lykert scale, four questions were multiple choices, and two were yes or no. These surveys were handed out during lunch periods, four, five, and six to all different grades.…

In consumer behavior, it is vital that upon completion of the course students have acquired a sound understanding of how consumers search for, purchase, and use products and services. Furthermore, students should also be exposed to the social and psychological influences on these behaviors. Finally, to have garnered the most benefit, students should understand how to integrate the theoretical concepts into their real world experiences. To achieve these broad objectives, a large amount of information must be presented by the instructor and then processed by the students. The purpose of this paper is to describe the use of consumption journals. This exercise enables students to not only observe and record their own consumption habits, but also to explore the social and psychological factors which may be influencing their and others' purchase decisions. Furthermore the greatest benefit is that they enjoy the learning process.…

The article, “Risk Factors Associated with Overweight and Obese College Student”, the authors Melissa N. Desai, William C. Miller, Betty Staples and Terrill Bravender conducted a study on how food plays a role in college students life along with being physically inactive. An extensive survey was sent through email to three campuses in North Carolina. This email was sent to all undergraduates with the exception of some because of internet difficulties not all the students received the email. The total resulted in 4,201 undergraduate students who received the email. This study used the Eating Attitudes Test 26 (EAT 26) questionnaire that asked multiple questions even though it was normally used to diagnose eating disorders like bulimia and anorexia nervosa (Desai, Miller, Staples, & Bravender, 2008).…
